The Yellowstone Character Fans Think Will Go On A Season 4 Revenge Journey

Whoever came for the Dutton family had better prepare themselves, because fans are convinced one of the surviving members of the family will go on a revenge journey in Yellowstone season 4. At the end of season 3, John, Kayce, and Beth were all ambushed in a coordinated attack. As a result, it's unclear if they'll all survive. But a new post on the show's official Instagram hints that Kayce will not only make it out of the gunfight in his office alive, he'll also be on a mission to bring down the people who went after his family.

The Instagram post features a memorable scene from early season 3 in which Kayce faced off with a wolf. In the clip he says, "Look at me, and know that I'm not your friend. I'm your enemy." Then the clever folks running the Yellowstone account took things a step further by captioning the post, "Here's some advice: Don't be an enemy of Kayce Dutton."

If Kayce is alive, he's going to be gunning for the person (or people) who put a hit out on his family, and at this point, there are plenty of potential candidates including Roarke Carter, Thomas Rainwater (this would be a huge shocker given the character's integrity), and Kayce's own brother, Jamie. It's the last option that would provide Yellowstone with the meatiest story, since it would set up an Abel and Cain scenario as John's sons faced off against each other for control of the ranch.

Kayce's quest for revenge in Yellowstone season 4 could make or break him

Every member of the Dutton family has blood on their hands, and that includes Kayce. But unlike his more ruthless father, sister, and brother, he does at least try to find a peaceful route if there's one to take. Whether it's sparing the life of ex-con Walker, or coming to terms with everything he went through as a member of the Navy SEALs, he tends to be more centered, but no less dangerous than the other people on the ranch.

However, that doesn't mean he won't strike back at anyone who threatens him and his family, which could put him in a difficult position if Jamie is behind the attack. Jamie is currently struggling to come to terms with the news that he's adopted, and in the finale his biological father told him that if he ever wanted to take ownership of the ranch he would need to "kill the king." Whether John's adopted son took that advice literally or not remains to be seen, but if he did, it could lead to an epic showdown between him and Kayce.

That showdown could leave Kayce facing the ultimate moral dilemma: If his brother is behind the attack, should he kill him for the sake of his family or try to redeem him? Early in the season 3 finale, John gave Kayce a bit of advice that seems destined to come back around for his youngest son. "You can't reason with evil, son," he said. "Evil wants what it wants and won't stop until it has won or you kill it. To kill it is to be meaner than evil."

John went on to tell Kayce that the ultimate challenge is to "be meaner than evil and still love your family and still enjoy a sunrise." If he's put in a position where he has to kill his own brother, can Kayce manage to live with himself? That could prove to be the ultimate test for John's last living, biological son.
