Live-Action Lady And The Tramp Trailer Unveiled At D23 2019
Clear two seats at your dinner table and dish up a big bowl of spaghetti.
Disney has revealed the first trailer for the live-action Lady and the Tramp film — and yes, the footage does tease the iconic scene of Lady and Tramp sharing an extra-long, sauce-covered noodle.
The House of Mouse unveiled the Lady and the Tramp trailer to much fanfare at the 2019 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California on Friday, August 23.
While the trailer sets up a story that shouldn't be surprising to those familiar with the original Lady and the Tramp — the 1955 animated feature about the prim and proper American cocker spaniel named Lady who falls in love with the scrappy Schnauzer mix mutt named Tramp — it does delight with its warm-toned aesthetic, adorable dogs, and spot-on voice performances from Tessa Thompson as Lady and Justin Theroux as Tramp.
Director Charlie Bean's live-action take on Lady and the Tramp may not stray too far from the animated Disney classic in terms of its narrative, but this trailer proves that he and the film's creative team aim to refresh the tale on the visual front. Live-action remakes of animated originals are sort of Disney's "thing" right now, with the studio having already released new versions of The Lion King and Aladdin with many more in the pipeline, but hopefully Lady and the Tramp will stand out amongst the crowd and be remembered for all the right reasons.
Lady and the Tramp also features the voices of Sam Elliott as the Bloodhound Trusty, Ashley Jensen as the Scottish Terrier Jock (who was a male in the original film), Janelle Monáe as the Pekingese named Peg, and Benedict Wong as Bull, who is, of course, a Bulldog.
Disney has Lady and the Tramp set for streaming the moment Disney+ launches on November 12.
