What's The Song In The Zombieland: Double Tap Trailer?
Nearly ten years after the release of the original Zombieland movie, Zombieland: Double Tap is finally coming this way to scoop you up, strap you into a massive truck, equip you with a few magazines of ammo and your very own gun, give you a nickname based on the state you're from, and task you with killing packs of brain-hungry zombies. Sony Pictures unveiled the first trailer for the Zombieland sequel on Thursday, July 25, leaving fans both hyped beyond compare for the new flick and wondering what track backed the kickass footage.
So, what's the song in the Zombieland: Double Tap trailer? We've got the answer.
It's a head-banging tune by an Australian rock band you have probably (definitely) heard before: "Shoot to Thrill" by AC/DC.
Released in July 1980 as part of the hard rock group's seventh studio album Back in Black, "Shoot to Thrill" was written by lead guitarist Angus Young, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Malcolm Young, and Brian Johnson, who became the third lead singer of the band following the death of second head vocalist Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott in February 1980.
The lyrics to "Shoot to Thrill" are quite scandalous, with the lines of the second verse ("I'm like evil, I get under your skin / Just like a bomb that's ready to blow / 'Cause I'm illegal / I got everything that all you women might need to know") referencing both sex and drugs.
Salacious as its lines may be, "Shoot to Thrill" actually made it into Iron Man 2, heard when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) makes his big "six months later" entrance to a sea of adoring fans at Stark Expo in Flushing, New York. So if Marvel gave the a-okay to the track for a kid-friendly superhero movie, it's little wonder why Sony also did for what's likely going to be an R-rated zombie movie.
Additionally, the lyrics jibe really well with what Zombieland: Double Tap is all about: shootin' down zombies, including the evolved version of the monsters that are currently stalking the nation's human survivors. In the trailer, we see our core four — Abigail Breslin's Little Rock, Emma Stone's Wichita, Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee, and Jesse Eisenberg's Columbus — firing off guns and bazookas at zombies. They may not be shooting to thrill, necessarily, but they are shooting to kill — and there's not a snowball's chance in hell that any of them would denying getting a kick out of vanquishing incoming zombies.
"Shoot to Thrill" also falls in the same hard rock realm as the tracks "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica, which sounded off during the opening credits sequence of the first Zombieland from 2009, and "Everybody Wants Some" by Van Halen, which played during the OG flick when Tallahassee and Columbus discover a yellow Hummer filled with a bunch of weapons for zombie-killing.
In all, whomever selected "Shoot to Thrill" to use in the Zombieland: Double Tap trailer chose wisely. Here's to hoping that the full soundtrack includes even more '80s bangers from classic rock bands.
Zombieland: Double Tap is set for an October 18 release.
