Final Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 Trailer Unveiled At SDCC 2019

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Television delivered a sting with the announcement that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would end with its forthcoming seventh season. Then, it made up for the bitterness with something sweet: another look at the series' currently airing sixth season.

A trailer for the last four episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 played out at the tail end of the show's SDCC panel on Thursday, teasing how the story will conclude before it sings its swan song with the seventh and final chapter. Clocking in at just over two minutes in length, the clip hints at a lot of what season 6 will explore in its last quartet of episodes — though what stands out most in the footage is Sarge, the doppelgänger of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). Who is he? What does he want? And what exactly is he capable of?

Judging by the trailer, Sarge is going to throw many wrenches into the Agents' agenda, as his super-strength and strange disintegrating skin appear to be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the abilities he harbors. Another thing that's for certain? Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 won't end before Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) does everything in her power to crack the Sarge-Coulson mystery.

"If I see a chance to get Coulson back, I'm going to take it," she says in the trailer — which implies that Sarge could be the devil in disguise, wearing the face of someone the Agents know (i.e., Coulson).

If Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb's recent remarks about the sixth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. weren't enough to convince you to not miss out on the impending episodes, ("You have to see how this ends," he said), this trailer should do the trick.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 will air its next episode, "Leap," on Friday, July 19. Subsequent episodes are "From the Ashes" that airs Friday, July 26, and the two-part finale entitled "The Sign" and "New Life" that drops on Friday, August 2.
