Kid Cudi Cast In Bill & Ted Face The Music

His pursuit of happiness has led him to Bill & Ted

Grammy-winning rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer Kid Cudi (real name: Scott Mescudi) is the latest star to join the cast of Bill & Ted Face the Music, the upcoming three-quel led by Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.

Deadline dropped the news of Cudi's casting on Thursday, June 13, but there are no specifics we can offer at this time. The minds behind Bill & Ted Face the Music are keeping an airtight lid on details about the character Cudi is set to play. We do know that in addition to sharing the screen with Reeves as Theodore "Ted" Logan and Winter as William "Bill" S. Preston Esq., Cudi will star alongside Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as Bill and Ted's daughters Billie and Thea.

Given the nature of Bill & Ted Face the Music, which sees its eponymous duo receive a message from a time-traveling prophet warning that they must create a song in order to prevent an apocalypse and restore peace in the universe, one can imagine that Cudi will probably play a musician of sorts. Perhaps he's the secret ingredient in Bill and Ted's world-saving tune. On the other hand, he could take on the role of a minion of the Grim Reaper, played by Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey star William Sadler. Or maybe Cudi himself is the visitor from the future who informs Bill and Ted of their mission.

Regardless, it seems inevitable that Cudi will sprinkle his music-making magic all over the new Bill & Ted movie, which comes 29 years after the sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and 31 years after the original Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Cudi has a Grammy win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (for his track "All of the Lights") and two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song (for the Billboard-charting tune "Day 'N' Nite") and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a Group (for "Make Her Say), as well as a multi-platinum debut album Man on the Moon: The End of the Day and several hit singles under his belt.

Bill & Ted Face the Music will also give Cudi a new opportunity to show off his acting chops. In addition to his talents in the music industry, Cudi has also cut his teeth on roles on series like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, One Tree Hill, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and How to Make It in America, and in films like Drunk Parents, Entourage, and Need for Speed

Directed by Galaxy Quest's Dean Parisot and written by franchise scribes Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, Bill & Ted Face the Music will open in theaters on August 21, 2020.
