Game Of Thrones: HBO Reveals First Sneak Peek At Season 8

Game of Thrones isn't circling back for its final, snow-covered chapter until 2019, but the beloved series' network HBO dropped the first footage at the upcoming season this weekend.

During Sunday night's jaw-dropping finale episode of Sharp Objects, HBO unveiled a sizzle reel of shows and events it has lined up in its always-stuffed docket.

Wedged between glimpses of Meryl Streep on the second season of the acclaimed (and formerly limited) drama series Big Little Lies, new projects Camping and Pod Save America, and forthcoming seasons of Barry and True Detective was a brief look at Game of Thrones season 8.

Granted, the clip only lasts about two seconds — not exactly a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but still fleeting — but its contents more than makes up for its length. Around the 1:10 mark in the video, shown above, we watch as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) hugs his sister Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) on the grounds of Winterfell, marking the first time the pair have seen one another since they embarked on their respective missions at the start of season 7.

Appearing worried but relieved to finally reunite with Sansa, Jon instigates the hug, which Sansa appears to receive somewhat poorly. What's up with the disconcerted face she's pulling? And how about those eyes that stare over Jon's shoulder and out at something — or someone — off screen?

From being wed to Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) in seasons past to finally getting her just desserts by orchestrating Littlefinger's (Aidan Gillen) murder in season 7, Sansa has had an, ahem, interesting life filled with taxing situations, strenuous relationships, and more obstacles than one could shake a stick at. That said, it's understandable why Sansa would wear a solemn look on her face. And the Stark kids have had a pretty rough go ever since their father Ned (Sean Bean) was killed in King's Landing during season 1 and the rest of their family was slaughtered in season 3, so there's a lot of unspoken emotion swirling around the pair.

This moment between Sansa and Jon (who's real name is actually Aegon Targaryen and who has a genuine claim to the throne) is a loaded one for sure, but Game of Thrones fans will have to wait until next year to discover the full context and see what happens after their silent embrace.
