Where To Watch Shutter Island

For the past couple of decades, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have been one of the most consistent, and consistently fruitful director-actor pairings in Hollywood. With the streaming release of "Killers of the Flower Moon" fast approaching, the cinematic power players are set to take their creative partnership into decade No. 3 of working together.

The Apple TV+ original will mark the sixth film Scorsese and DiCaprio have collaborated on, with the pair beginning their big screen love affair in 2002 with the gritty 19th-century epic "Gangs of New York." Of their ensuing offerings, many might agree their twist-a-minute 2010 thriller "Shutter Island" ranks among the best. Adapted from Dennis Lehane's 2003 novel of the same name, the 1950s-set mystery follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and his partner, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), as they visit the titular isle to investigate the disappearance of a dangerous patient from Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane.

As the investigation proceeds, a far more sinister plot reveals itself to the marshals as reality itself seems to melt away around them. Along the way, Scorsese errs as close to true-blue horror as he ever has in his illustrious career. If you missed the master's dalliance with genre fare upon release, you'll be happy to know you can now catch "Shutter Island" on streaming. But you'll need to ensure you've got a current subscription to either Amazon Prime Video or Paramount+ to do it.

Shutter Island is also available through several other digital outlets

Yes, with a current Paramount+ sub, you can now stay home and stream Martin Scorsese's 2010 psychological thriller masterpiece "Shutter Island," or you can rent it from Amazon. And if the names Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Mark Ruffalo aren't quite enough to entice you to go all in on either sub, you should know the film also boasts heavy-hitters like Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, and Max Von Sydow, among others.

Those names should be enough to get even naysayers to at least give "Shutter Island" the benefit of the doubt. Nonetheless, there are likely a few out there less keen to do business with Amazon these days. And given the glut of streaming platforms available to the movie-loving masses these days, ponying up for a Paramount+ sub may not be a move everyone wants to make. If either is the case, you can also access it via Showtime, Showtime+, DirecTV, and MGM+. Or if you want to take a more single-transaction approach to streaming "Shutter Island," rent or buy it from any number of other video-on-demand providers, including iTunes, VUDU, and Google Play.

That course of action will cost you a few bucks, however, with most outlets offering the movie to rent at a cost of about $3.99. As for the purchase price, a 4K digital version is going for roughly $12.99 to $14.99. And if you prefer a physical copy of "Shutter Island," you can procure one for anywhere from $5.99 for a DVD to as much as $22.99 for a 4K Blu-Ray Steelbook.
