How Many Episodes Are In The Bear Season 2?

FX debuted a trailer for Season 2 of "The Bear" on May 15, 2023, providing fans of the acclaimed restauranteur dramedy's first season with their first look at what's next for Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). "The Bear" Season 2 is slated for a June release, so this early footage of the upcoming batch of episodes precedes its premiere by only about a month.

Just prior to releasing this trailer, FX announced on Twitter that Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, totaling two more than its predecessor. This is unsurprising, given that "The Bear" seems to be among FX's biggest-ever hits. Notably, in December of 2022, a few months after Season 1's June release, Vulture editor Josef Adalian wrote on Twitter that a representative for FX described "The Bear" as the most-watched comedy in the network's history. Season 2's increased episode count, then, is a direct byproduct of the show's unprecedented success.

Of course, with its 25% larger episode order, viewers will now spend more time with Carmy, Sydney, Richie and the rest of the series' main cast during Season 2. Although much of its contents are still under wraps outside of what's been showcased in its first trailer, a couple of cast and crew interviews provide some insight into just how its larger story arcs might play out.

Season 2 is about achieving dreams

In May of 2022, following the premiere of the first "Bear" Season 2 trailer, Carmy actor Jeremy Allen White spoke to Esquire at length about his career thus far and concluded by previewing Carmy's upcoming story arc. As fans of the show are already aware, Carmy's focus going into Season 2 is opening up a new restaurant capable of fulfilling his culinary ambitions. White, however, characterized the possibility that Carmy might accomplish exactly what he set out to do at the show's outset as an experience that will inspire deep self-reflection.

"The question becomes, 'Is that enough? Is that going to make him happy? Is that going to bring him joy?' Joy and inspiration are the big themes in the second season, and not just for Carmy, but also for Sydney, Marcus, and Richie," White said.

Chris Storer, who created the series, corroborated the notion that dreams factor heavily into Season 2 in an extensive Variety feature. "Season 2 really is about the opportunity to start fresh and what does that mean. What does Carmen and Sydney's dream restaurant look like? But also at the same time, what is a dream restaurant in 2023 look like? I think that's the thing they're sort of battling with," Storer said.

Fans can find out how Carmy and Sydney pursuing their dreams will play out when all 10 episodes of "The Bear" Season 2 premiere on June 22.
