Iron Fist Season 2 Teaser Trailer Unleashed At San Diego Comic-Con

This isn't a fight. It's just a warm-up.

Netflix swung a major punch at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday evening, dropping the first teaser trailer for season 2 of Marvel's Iron Fist

In it, we see star Finn Jones back in action as Danny Rand, better known as the titular Iron Fist, proclaiming that New York is now his city — one he would give up his life for if it meant keeping citizens safe. Danny engages in a little alleyway pas de deux with a seemingly random baddie, the two exchanging jabs that don't quite connect until Danny lives up to its superhero name and launches his otherworldly powerful fist directly into his opponent's face, knocking him on his back.

"If you won't put this war to rest, then I'll find a way," Danny says in the teaser just before his fist lights up and heads for the pavement beneath his feet.

A lot went wrong with the first season of Marvel's Iron Fist and reception to it was unbelievably bleak, with critics calling the series "laughably bad," "a middling superhero show that further pales when compared to Marvel's ground-breaking Netflix series Luke Cage and Jessica Jones," a "drab patch in that endless Marvel tapestry," and "easily the worst thing to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far."

The series fared a bit better better with fans, but was still (rightfully) chastised for its poor handling of Bakuto (Ramon Rodriguez) and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick); its sometimes uninteresting, sometimes seriously unconvincing action; and its choice to cast Jones as Danny rather than the Asian-American actor Lewis Tan, who ended up appearing in one episode of Iron Fist as Zhou Cheng, later going on to play Shatterstar in Deadpool 2 and meeting with DC about a Nightwing movie

That said, both Iron Fist as a series and its title hero as a character have needed some serious TLC, and an amped-up second season just might do the trick. This first-look teaser seems pretty darn promising, potentially enough to bring Danny Rand back into good graces — or, at least, take him off the thin ice he's been skating on since 2017.

Marvel's Iron Fist will return to Netflix for season 2 on September 7.
