Riverdale Season 3 To Introduce Evelyn Evernever

Riverdale is getting a brand-new resident in season 3. 

According to a casting breakdown published by That Hashtag Show, the third season of The CW's Riverdale will bring the Little Archie comics character Evelyn Evernever into the mix. 

But Evelyn won't be the shy and sweet girl she is in the source material. Per the casting information, Evelyn on Riverdale is the "otherworldly, seemingly omnipresent," and slightly odd neighbor of Lili Reinhart's Betty Cooper. The breakdown further describes Evelyn as being "eager to befriend Betty" and "surprisingly insightful for her age," but also as harboring dark secrets about herself she aims to keep hidden from the outside world. 

The most chilling detail of the breakdown block? Riverdale producers are apparently considering actresses who look like Reinhart for the "major recurring guest star" gig, as it's noted a "possible direction for the role is a girl who is physically reminiscent of Betty." 

First popping up in the Little Archie comics that ran from the mid-1950s until the early 1980s, Evelyn fell back into the shadows of semi-obscurity until she was seen in a recent issue of Betty & Veronica Spectacular. The introverted girl who once only confided in her doll Minerva reappeared as a teenage girl who — surprise! — kidnapped Archie Andrews (played by K.J. Apa on Riverdale). 

It has also been revealed in the Archie Comics universe that Evelyn was actually Archie's first kiss when he was younger, suggesting that her resurfacing within the TV series could stir up some dormant emotions and cause tension between the ginger-haired boy and his take-no-prisoners girlfriend Veronica (Camila Mendes). The fact that the television version of Evelyn might also end up looking like a clone of Betty, whom Archie has long had complicated feelings for, makes the whole situation sound like a high school soap opera — which is exactly what we've come to expect from Riverdale.

So, does this mean Evelyn is going to go all Single White Female on Betty? Will the series remain faithful to the comics and see Evelyn kidnapping "Justin Gingerlake"? Well, when it comes to Ms. Evernever, never say never. 

Riverdale will return for season 3 on Wednesday, October 10 at 8 PM on The CW.
