New Luke Cage Season 2 Trailer Features Harlem 'Royalty' Mariah And Bushmaster
Harlem doesn't need a hero. It needs a queen. Well, at least that's what Mariah Dillard believes.
A new trailer for Luke Cage season 2 sees Alfre Woodard's nefarious politician-slash-club owner Mariah stake her claim on the New York neighborhood's proverbial throne and face a fierce opponent along the way: the bulletproof baddie known as Bushmaster, played by Mustafa Shakir. Bushmaster, who's every bit as invincible as Mike Colter's Luke Cage, fancies himself the "king of pain" and intends to kill Mariah and Luke so he can reign over Harlem as its wretched royal figure.
Both Mariah and Bushmaster (and Luke Cage, too, since he's always stopping a villain or saving someone from their clutches) will go toe to toe with another miscreant: the crime lord Rosalie, portrayed by Annabella Sciorra, who pops up near the end of the new trailer. But Mariah has one thing Bushmaster and Rosalie don't, and that's Luke Cage. As she continues her power trip after taking over Harlem's Paradise in season 1, she maps out plans to use Harlem's hero as her personal protector — her "dark chocolate boy scout," as she calls him in the trailer.
Will Luke actually carry out Mariah's dirty deeds for the greater good of keeping Harlem safe? Or will he stick to his superhero morals and refuse to work with a criminal, even if it means endangering the city he's supposed to protect?
We'll have to wait until Netflix releases all 13 episodes of Luke Cage season 2 on Friday, June 22 to find out.
