Our Imaginations Are Running Wild Over This Look At Chris Evans As Wolverine

Chris Evans may have achieved icon status as the first Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but superhero veterans know that the star-spangled super soldier isn't the first comic book character the actor played. Back in 2005, the then-up-and-coming star featured in Tim Story's "Fantastic Four" as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch. Now, a well-crafted piece of fan art is offering a glimpse into what Evans might look like if he added a third Marvel hero to his series of credits.

The popular digital fan artist BossLogic shared a mock-up on their Instagram of what Chris Evans might look like as the X-Men member Wolverine. It may be difficult for fans to distance themselves from Hugh Jackman's iconic live-action iteration of the vicious mutant, but the art makes a pretty compelling case for Evans. In the image, the actor sports the character's trademark spiked-ear-style hair and beard, as well as a leather jacket that's right at home in the hero's wardrobe. Of course, he's also flashing Logan's Adamantium claws for good measure.

While the caption to BossLogic's post denotes that they partially made the art as a joke in response to "Avengers: Endgame" directors Joe and Anthony Russo once suggesting to ComicBook that Evans would be a good fit to play Wolverine, it nonetheless may have some fans wondering what the chances are that the actor could actually end up portraying the character.

Evans as Wolverine is possible but unlikely

For those wondering if Chris Evans could make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a new iteration of Wolverine, it's probably best not to get one's hopes up too much. The actor famously put his Marvel days behind him with the completion of "Avengers: Endgame" and it would be a pretty surprising turn of events for the actor to make a return, especially as a new character.

Even if Evans did return to appearing in Marvel movies, it's much more likely that he'd reprise one of his two earlier superhero roles. While rumors have swirled about him possibly appearing as Captain America once again, Evans said in an interview with ComicBook that "it would have to be perfect." Beyond that, he's indicated to MTV News that he'd be even more open to appearing as Human Torch instead. "Cap is so precious to me, and I almost don't want to disrupt what a beautiful experience that was," Evans said. "But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn't really get his day."

Nevertheless, the possibility that Evans might play Wolverine in a future production can't definitively be ruled out. With Hugh Jackman presumably hanging up his claws after returning for "Deadpool 3," there's ostensibly a vacancy for the role. However, even if the stars don't align for Evans and Wolvie, at least there's some great fan art out there to fill the gap.
