Mayim Bialik And Jim Parsons Never Saw Their Intimate TBBT Scene Coming
It's pretty common on sitcoms for characters to get together, fall in love, and eventually marry. However, if there were ever a character who seemed destined to stay alone when he was first introduced, it would be Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) on "The Big Bang Theory." While some would argue Sheldon's asexuality should've been handled better, many fans were undoubtedly pleased to see him pursue a romantic relationship with newcomer Amy Fowler (Mayim Bialik).
It took a long time, but the pair consummated their relationship, which took both actors by surprise. After five years of dating, the show finally brought the two together carnally in Season 9's "The Opening Night Excitation," where Sheldon has to decide whether to see the opening night of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" or be with Amy on her birthday. Despite the long build-up, the actors involved were still surprised to see the act finally put in a script. When Bialik and Parsons were at PaleyFest LA for "Big Bang Theory," they spoke about it, with Bialik stating, "Neither Jim nor I really didn't think that was happening now. I never read the scripts — we get them the night before we start a table reading, and I typically don't read them until the morning of the table reading, but this tape night, I happened to be leafing through the script." If Bialik was surprised, Parsons was positively flabbergasted.
Jim Parsons made a non-child-friendly joke about the milestone
Jim Parsons is quick to jump in to help Mayim Bialik with her story, but he quickly wonders whether any children are present in the audience. "The Big Bang Theory" is fairly family-friendly, minus a few innuendos here and there, but it wouldn't be out of the question for a kid to be there. Still, Parsons marches on to talk about how Bialik approached him after she read the script and found out their characters were going to have sex. She asked him if he had a chance to read the script, to which he responded, "What, do we f***?" They both go on to talk about how they didn't see it coming, to which someone expertly answers, "No pun intended."
Parsons can obviously get a bit more vulgar on-stage at an event as opposed to when he's on a CBS sitcom, but it would seem Bialik more knows where to draw the line. It wasn't the first time she had to relate the story of finding out her character was going to have sex. In a 2015 interview with Glamour, Bialik was asked the same thing, but she censored herself, describing the interaction like this: "I passed Jim [Parsons] in the hallway and I said, 'Did you read the script yet?!' He said, 'No. Do we do it?' and I said, 'YES!' He was like, 'What?!' He just threw it out there as a joke. We couldn't believe it."
The actors were taken aback just as much as fans to finally see Sheldon Cooper do the deed.
