Ted Lasso Fans Are Relieved To See Trent Crimm In Season 3's Trailer

You can't always get what you want — unless what you want is more Trent Crimm.

AppleTV+ finally released the first trailer for the highly anticipated third season of "Ted Lasso," thankfully revealing that one fan-favorite character will make a surprising return. Played by James Lance, Trent Crimm ("The Independent") was somewhat of a minor antagonist at the beginning of the series' freshman season.

A self-serious sports reporter from one of the nation's most prestigious publications, he seemed almost personally offended by Ted's (Jason Sudeikis) blatant ignorance toward soccer and English culture. Once the two spent the day together, however, Trent was surprised to find himself inspired by Ted's positivity, humility, and determination.

Though the two men end Season 2 as friends, it looked as though Trent's time on the series had come to a close. He no longer had a place in AFC Richmond's press room, nor did he seem interested in continuing his current line of work (even as Trent Crimm, "independent"). As the trailer for Season 3 shows, however, Trent will be back for the series' final season — much to the delight of diehard fans.

Watch out, Rupert - Trent Crimm is on the case

Though most in the comments section of "Ted Lasso's" Season 3 trailer were cheering "TED IS BACK," one user chimed in "Trent Crimm is back too!!! Will be interesting to see what he's doing now." For those who may not remember, Trent was fired from The Independent for leaking a source at the end of last season.

Trent recurred throughout Season 2 until the finale offered what appeared to be his final bow. After Nate (Nick Mohammed) leaked information about Ted's anxiety attacks to Trent (directly contradicting what Ted had previously stated on the record), Trent was compelled by his own journalistic integrity to report on it. His personal integrity, however, compelled him to inform Ted before the article was published. "I can't tell you how happy I am to see Trent Crimm (The Independent) in this trailer," wrote u/BrunetteMoment on Reddit. "I thought we might have lost him after last season."

Though the trailer shows Trent is still absent from the briefing room, he does receive a dedicated single showing him dressed down and seemingly "on the beat." A still of this shot can be seen on @lassoleil's Twitter — they lightly speculate that Trent is out to "ruin ruperts life." The man that stole Nate from Richmond just to torment Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head) is certainly shaping up to be a major threat in Season 3. Perhaps Trent will uncover scandals and other improprieties at West Ham United.

Whatever the capacity, fans are just excited that Trent hasn't been left out of the series' final outing. As @4eigning on Twitter said, "The only one I really care about is Trent Crimm, The Independent."

"Ted Lasso" Season 3 premieres on AppleTV+ on March 15th, 2023.
