Thanos Vs. Galactus: Who Would Win A Fight?

From Dr. Octopus to Killmonger, the Marvel Universe is jam-packed with some notorious baddies, all with their own unique origins and set of powers. When it comes to pure power, two names stand above the rest — Thanos and Galactus, who almost appeared in "Thor: Love and Thunder." Without a doubt, these two are not only the most powerful Marvel villains, but they are also some of the most formidable foes in all of comic history.

Thanos — obsessed with the idea of death and maintaining resources — can wipe out entire civilizations with his immense intelligence and one snap of his finger. Meanwhile, the power-hungry Galactus eats planets for breakfast to fuel his path of destruction. Both have seen significant battles and victories throughout the years against some of Marvel's most skilled teams, including the Avengers and Fantastic Four, but what would happen if the Mad Titan and Devourer of Worlds went head-to-head?

Both foes, while seemingly similar in their formidability, are quite different in their mindsets and goals, which would undeniably cause conflict between the two supervillains. While things might seem to lean in Galactus' favor, Thanos does have a chance against the god-like being if he comes prepared with the right arsenal. Unlike his victory in "Avengers: Infinity War," such a titanic battle would be far from a snap to win.

Defeating Galactus comes with a major consequence

Galactus and Thanos have engaged in battle once in the 2004 comic "Thanos: Epiphany #5" by Jim Starlin. In the story, Thanos and Pip the Troll enter Galactus' ship with the intent of destroying it to prevent Hunger, Devourer of Realities, from being released. Although Thanos tries to warn Galactus of the danger, the supreme being doesn't listen, and a skirmish between the two ensues.

While Thanos puts up a good fight, he is overwhelmed by his adversary. Although Galactus doesn't kill his nemesis, it's all too easy to imagine him doing so. The only reason Thanos stands a chance against Galactus is thanks to the might of the Infinity Gauntlet. Even with only one or two of the Infinity Stones, Thanos holds the highest power in all of Marvel and could potentially have defeated Galactus with more time.

However, there is a deadly catch to this. Galactus is more than a simple bad guy; he is one of the most important beings in the Marvel Universe. Having been created by the all-powerful Eternity, Galactus harbors the destructive entity Abraxas inside of him and suppresses the being from causing havoc. Should Galactus be killed, Abraxas could be released and spell disaster for the universe as a whole. Even if killing Galactus was a snap for Thanos, the aftermath would be anything but.
