Severide Fans Are Upset He Didn't Appear At Ethan And April's Chicago Med Wedding
Season 8 of "Chicago Med" finally sees the wedding bells chime for one of the "One Chicago" franchise's best couples. After numerous seasons' worth of will-they-won't-they romantic drama between Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), the pair finally tie the knot, with their wedding taking place in Season 8, Episode 9, titled "This Could Be the Start of Something New."
Of course, such a major occasion is cause for both the fanbase and the characters to celebrate, even if it does also mean Ethan and April and their respective actors are putting their days on "Chicago Med" behind them (via Deadline). Indeed, the families of both characters, along with their many friends from the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center all show up to commemorate the pair's union. However, fans noticed that Taylor Kinney's Kelly Severide from "Chicago Fire" didn't make it to the ceremony, and they're not too happy about it.
Where was Severide?
One of the best ways "Chicago Med" and the other "One Chicago" shows use their shared universe setting is by giving many of the characters from the different series connections to one another. One glance at the "One Chicago" relationship map will blow your mind, with characters from across separate shows being siblings, friends, or even romantic partners. Notably, "Chicago Fire's" Kelly Severide has been established in the shows to be childhood friends with "Chicago Med's" April Sexton.
Unfortunately, the connection between Severide and April makes the former's absence at the latter's wedding in Season 8 of "Chicago Med" all the more noticeable to fans. "I'm sorry, was Severide even INVITED to the wedding?!" @lexiesdaisy tweeted following the episode's premiere. "It's a crying shame that Taylor Kinney isn't guest starring tonight. Kelly and April were childhood friends for god sake, that is just depressing."
It's true that "One Chicago" weddings usually feature special appearances. Even Severide's own marriage to Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in the Season 10 finale of "Chicago Fire" sees Jesse Spencer's Matt Casey make a grand return. However, the creatives have noted in the past that doing crossovers is a complicated task and not one that can easily or quickly be pulled off (via CinemaBlend).
Nonetheless, some fans wish that the "One Chicago" team had ultimately found a way to get Severide in the room. "I know crossovers are tough but I just feel like Severide should be at April's wedding," @rainydayhues tweeted.
