Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania's Trailer Features A Spider-Man Name Drop Fans Can't Help But Turn Into A Meme

Marvel Studios has always straddled the line between high-stakes action and comedy. Even when the very multiverse is at stake, heroes often find the time to launch a quick zinger or two. This aspect is what typically sets Marvel superhero films apart from others in the genre, and the movies and shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have proven to be an overwhelming success with fans.

One of the upcoming movies on the horizon in the MCU franchise is "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." At one point in the trailer for "Quantumania," Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his family are seen reunited, and his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) shows off an impressive science construction. She explains that this new device will act as a beacon in the quantum realm, which causes Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) to immediately become concerned that they are sending a signal into the Quantum Realm. Unfortunately, before she can finish her thought, the group is pulled into the tiny universe. Before this event in the trailer, Lang's life seems as normal as it can be after just saving the world. During his day-to-day, a shop owner thanks Lang for his service, though they call him by a completely different superhero name.

Fans love that Ant-Man is mistaken for Spider-Man

It is this throwaway joke that has fans already in stitches. As mentioned earlier, Scott Lang is living his best life post "Avengers: Endgame" and is seen being recognized by people on and off the streets. Getting some coffee and donuts, a shopkeeper yells out to Lang, "Thank you, Spider-Man," to which the hero respectfully nods while some of the store's patrons look shocked at the mistake. It was this moment that has the internet crafting its own spontaneous meme. The current top comment on YouTube jokingly states, "Oh god, can't wait to see this. I love Spider-man." It's always fun when people lean into an in-universe joke, isn't it?

Others also jumped onto this train of thought, with another commenter writing, "Spider-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania looking real good." Similarly, another YouTube user joked, "Can't wait for Spider-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania!! Looks really good! Also glad that they gave Ant-Man some role too, that guy is heavily underrated." In other words, it seems like the internet's denizens are thoroughly enjoying leaning into the shopkeeper's mistake and how Lang accepted the incorrect title not to upset anybody. How thoughtful!

However, not all comments poked fun at this joke from the trailer, and one comment pointed out how Marvel's Wallcrawler is being talked about more and more by other characters in the MCU. They said, "I'm liking how Spider-Man is starting to be referenced in other MCU films more often. And yeah, the Kang Dynasty begins." Either way, it seems like there will probably be more confusion betwixt insect-inspired superheroes in the future.
