Shaft Sequel Adds Matt Lauria To Cast
The cast for New Line Cinema's Shaft sequel is continuing to come together, as Deadline reports that Matt Lauria is joining the film in an undisclosed role.
The Shaft sequel, sometimes referred to unofficially as Son of Shaft, currently boasts a cast that includes both Shaft actors, Richard Roundtree and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Jessie T. Usher as the middle Shaft's estranged kid. In case you weren't sold on this movie yet, that's three generations of Shaft for the price of one!
In addition to Roundtree, Jackson, and Usher, Alexandra Shipp, Regina Hall, and Method Man will also appear in the movie.
As a performer, Lauria previously starred in Friday Night Lights, Kingdom, and Parenthood. He's also set to appear with Gina Rodriguez in the upcoming thriller Miss Bala from director Catherine Hardwicke for Sony.
Shaft is being headed up by Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer director Tim Story, shooting from a script by Alex Barnow and Kenya Barris. Although it shares a continuity and characters with the 1971 and 2000 Shaft movies, the new Shaft is nonetheless being described as a reboot.
Shaft is set to see release on June 14, 2019.
