Stranger Things Season 4's Bloopers Show Us An Unexpected Side Of Vecna
"Stranger Things" has always had a way of getting under our skin. Since its debut in 2016, the sci-fi horror Netflix show, which focuses on a series of mysterious supernatural events that affect the residents of a small American town, has introduced an array of bizarre, unsettling threats that never fail to leave us creeped out. This was especially the case with the Emmy-winning show's most recent fourth season which debuted in the summer of 2022. This season saw our characters separated in various locations and fighting their own battles, from Hopper's (David Harbour) brutal escape from a Russian prison to Nancy's (Natalia Dyer) bone-chilling interaction with Victor Creel (Robert Englund). At the center of all this chaos was Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the terrifying creature who originated as human test subject Henry Creel before being sent to the Upside Down by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) when she was a child. He eventually transforms into the horrendous Vecna, using his powers and fueled by his hatred of humanity to torment the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana.
Vecna is ultimately the accumulation of all the horror aspects of "Stranger Things" and then some. Now, rather than a faceless bunch of monsters attacking our heroes, we have a malicious, sentient figure who takes pleasure in torturing them. But is Vecna really that bad of a guy? Well, yes, in the show at least. But a recent blooper reel from the record-breaking season shows that Hawkins' greatest threat has another side to him.
Vecna's laugh is truly contagious
For 2022's Netflix TUDUM event, the global showcase of fan-favorite content from the streaming company, a blooper reel from "Stranger Things" Season 4 was released. In the reel, we see a clip of none other than Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna during his frighteningly memorable interaction with Nancy. As he closes in on her, Bower breaks into laughter, followed by Natalia Dyer. Hearing Bower's regular voice come from the intimidating Vecna is surreal, but it quickly turns into a wholesome little moment.
Many of the comments under the blooper reel reacted to the scene, such as the top comment by user Joe C who said, "Hearing Jamie's regular voice and laugh in the Vecna costume has got to be the strangest thing." Other users agreed on this, while user Brie complemented the makeup work of Barrie Gower regarding how natural it reacts when Bower smiles.
This is not the first time audiences have caught a glimpse of Vecna in a more casual light. Earlier this year, shortly after the release of the first part of "Stranger Things 4," Netflix Geeked released a time-lapse video of the makeup team from the show applying Bower's prosthetics, a process that took up to eight hours (via Variety). Bower is drinking Starbucks coffee and talking on his phone in full Vecna makeup, something that fans found just as bizarrely amusing.
