Get Your First Look At The Sense8 Finale Special
Sense8 fans, your day is about to be made.
After Netflix 86'd Sense8, the sci-fi drama created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, devotees of the series burst into devastation and determination, rallying for Netflix to properly wrap up the storyline with one last hoorah. The streaming service buckled to an agreement, and Lana Wachowski eagerly announced that Netflix would deliver to viewers a feature-length Sense8 conclusion. And now, we've been given the first look at that upcoming finale.
The official Sense8 Facebook page posted a short teaser for the series' final bow with the caption, "Cluster fam, as you know we're bringing you a conclusion to the Sense8 story next year. Been a little quiet here, just super busy making it as perfect as possible for you. With much love, here's a sneak peek at all the hard work the cast and crew have been up to behind the scenes of our Finale Special. See you in 2018."
Sprinkled with behind-the-scenes glimpses at what went into shooting the finale and how the much-adored cast feels about the series' influence on its audience, the video includes appearances from all eight main actors: Jamie Clayton, Tuppence Middleton, Toby Onwumere, Tina Desai, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Donna Bae, Brian J. Smith, and Max Riemelt–all of whom speak from the heart about their connection to one another and Sense8 as a whole.
Though the clip doesn't reveal too much about the episode in terms of what might happen plot-wise, it does show Agyeman explaining how energized the production was after Netflix made the decision to create the finale, as well as Riemelt saying that the last episode will be fulfilling for fans.
"The minute the decision was made, everything's been super speedy, incredibly hi-octane. Everything had to go go go," said Agyeman. Later on, Riemelt stated with a smile, "I'm proud to be a part of this, and happy that we can give [the fans] an end that will satisfy them."
As co-creator Wachowski detailed in her original statement confirming that the Sense8 finale was actually happening, the last lap for the show would not have been possible without the overwhelming fan response.
"The outpouring of love and grief that came in the wake of the news that Sense8 would not be continuing was so intense that I often found myself unable to open my own email. I had never worked so hard, or put so much of myself into a project, as I had with Sense8, and its cancellation hollowed me out," Wachowski said at the time. "In this world, it is easy to believe that you cannot make a difference; that when a government or an institution or a corporation makes a decision, there is something irrevocable about the decision; that love is always less important than the bottom line. But here is a gift from the fans of this show that I will carry forever in my heart: while it is often true those decisions are irreversible, it is not always true."
The Sense8 finale special is scheduled to hit Netflix sometime in 2018.
