Netflix Cancels Sense8

Netflix has handed down its second cancellation of the past week. Shortly after announcing that Baz Luhrmann's The Get Down would not get a second season, the streaming service let fans know that they will not be seeing a third season of their sci-fi series Sense8.

Sense 8 comes from the Wachowski siblings, the minds behind the Matrix films. The show debuted its first season in June of 2015 and later aired a two-hour Christmas special in December 2016. Season two, which saw the sensates fighting against the dark forces that continued to track them, debuted on May 5 to an 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, an improvement from the first season's 67 percent. The show earned an Emmy nomination for its main title theme in 2016; other major award nods included a GLAAD Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series and a Best New Media Television Series nomination from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films.

"After 23 episodes, 16 cities, and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end," said Cindy Holland, Netflix's vice president of original content, in a statement. (via The Hollywood Reporter) "It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana [Wachowski], Lilly [Wachowski], [co-creator] Joe [Michael Straczynski] and [executive producer] Grant [Hill] for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment."

Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, and Naveen Andrews starred in the series. As we mourn the loss of Sense8, see some TV shows that were canceled for dumb reasons.
