Freeform Releases Trailer For Marvel's Cloak And Dagger

Well, that was sooner than expected.

Although the Marvel series Cloak and Dagger isn't set to premiere until 2018, Freeform has already released the trailer for the show starring Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph as two teens brought together by their superpowers.

The trailer starts by showing the troubled childhoods of Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), with the two first connecting when Tyrone rescues Tandy from drowning after a car crash. After that, the pair live very separate lives, although both appear to have many issues at school and at home. "It's like you're afraid if I don't do everything perfectly you're gonna lose me," Tyrone says to his mother. She responds: "I'm afraid even if you do everything perfectly I'm gonna lose you."

The trailer plays very much like a typical Freeform drama until the end, when Tandy and Tyrone touch hands and are shot backwards from each other by a beam of light. This hints at their powers, with Tandy (also known as Dagger) able to emit light daggers, and Tyrone (also known as Cloak) able to engulf people in darkness. The trailer also ends with a big hint to its Marvel connections, showing Tyrone standing on the Roxxon Corporation, featured in the Iron Man movies, the Netflix series Daredevil, and on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter.

The trailer, released during Freeform's upfront presentation, seems to include scenes mostly from the pilot episode, which would make sense considering the long wait still left before the 10 episodes premiere next year.

The series comes from Joe Pokaski (Heroes) and also stars Andrea Roth, Carl Lundstedt, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, James Saito, and J.D. Evermore.

The trailer release comes on the same day as the network announced the full lineup for its other Marvel property, New Warriors, which will feature the fan-favorite Squirrel Girl.
