Supernatural Fans All Agree This Is The Worst Season Of The Show

"Supernatural" has been a massive success for The CW, lasting a staggering 15 seasons. Starring two actors mostly famous at the time for other CW shows, like "Gilmore Girls" and "Smallville," the series went on to make stars of its leads while paving the way for creator and showrunner Eric Kripke to take on massive projects like "The Boys."

However, with this success comes certain caveats. Over the course of the series, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) both died and came back to life multiple times, going to places like heaven, hell, and purgatory on the regular along the way.

Such are the narrative hoops you have to jump through when a show like this is on the air for so long. While not all seasons can naturally match the show at its peak, there's one season of "Supernatural" that fans seem to agree is the weakest link in the chain.

Fans think Season 15 is the worst

On the r/Supernatural subreddit, fans noted the drop-off for Season 15, particularly early on in the season. u/DryReputation9506 asked if they were the only one who noticed this in their thread after watching the first five seasons. "Maybe it's the giant jump in seasons but the shows quality has declined greatly," they observed. "The ghosts in 15x1 & 15x2 look almost comical? ... Also the quality of the extra actors is really poor."

While shows that go on for as long as "Supernatural" did will always have some hiccups along the way, it's especially disappointing when a show's final season or series finale is the one that drops the ball. Other fans were quick to agree but pointed out the worst of it is definitely at the start of Season 15.

"Yeah you're not alone, a lot of people had problems with the first 3 episodes of the season," u/FTWinchester offered in the top-voted comment. "Thankfully, some of the latter episodes this season deliver on the quality so there's that," they offered in recompense.

Other users were quick to parrot this sentiment. "Yeah the first 3 episodes of season 15 were not good, but the other ones have made up for it," wrote u/Goalierox. While Season 15 of "Supernatural" has gotten its share of flack, creator Eric Kripke wasn't so hard on Season 15.

Eric Kripke approved of the ending

Eric Kripke was especially pleased with the Season 15 finale that ended the show. Sitting down with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke praised the ending. "'Guys, I think it's the right one,'" he recalled telling showrunners Andrew Dab and Bob Singer. "There's some substance to it, but there's something emotional; I think there's a positive energy around it," he went on.

However, Kripke did note that the ending he'd had in mind for the series would have been much darker. "I can assure the fans that my ending was so much darker than the ending they're going with," Kripke concluded. Anyone who has seen the heavy note with which the "Supernatural" creator ended his five-year run on the show will no doubt know what he's talking about.

Though fans might naturally be curious about what Kripke would have done, he was cagey about specifics. "'You would've hated my ending!'" the creator joked. "Because it was a horror movie and it was going to have a horror movie ending." While we may never know what that ending would have looked like, fans can at least rest assured that Kripke signed off on the ending we did get.
