Fans Are Losing It Over This Classic Marvel Theme Song In The Ms. Marvel Finale

Spoilers ahead for "Ms. Marvel"

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to truck along with a diverse array of projects, especially with the studio fully exploring the world of TV. Having already experienced critical success with Disney+ shows like "WandaVision" and "Loki," the MCU struck gold again when they further expanded into fresh territory with "Ms. Marvel." The series just wrapped up its six-episode run, which was met with critical acclaim, as evidenced by its whopping 98% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series follows Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a teenage girl from Jersey City who adores Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). After finding a family heirloom that grants her cosmic powers, Khan begins her superhero journey while struggling with her identity, family life, and getting her driver's license. The series will segue into "The Marvels," the direct sequel to "Captain Marvel," making Khan a pivotal player in the cosmic side of the MCU. While fans are ready to see "Ms. Marvel" take to the stars and team up with some of the most powerful heroes in the galaxy, they're absolutely stoked about a major revelation regarding her DNA. And it all intertwines with a classic Marvel theme that has fans fluttering with nostalgia.

The X-Men: The Animated Series theme plays while it's revealed Ms. Marvel has a DNA mutation

"Ms. Marvel" fans were treated to a powerful finale that could fundamentally change the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the season comes to a close, Kamala Khan's (Iman Vellani) closest friend, Bruno (Matt Lintz), reveals that our heroine appears to have a genetic mutation. As the teenager reveals how Khan's DNA is different from her family's, the theme from "The X-Men: The Animated Series," billed in the credits as "X-Men '97," builds in the background. How's that for a needle drop?

Obviously, fans had a lot to say. Twitter user @FandomCrunch posted a clip of the musical cue with the caption, "X-MEN 97 THEME PLAYING IM LITERALLY ALL THE EMOTIONS RIGHT NOW." Fellow fan @ellaaconn had a similarly excited take, writing, "ABSOLUTELY CRAZY WHATTTT?? hearing even a bit of the 97' X-MEN them song made me scream!! kamala is a mutant!!" And noted Marvel super-fan Vellani even revealed in a statement to Marvel.com that after she read the script for the episode, "I emailed Kevin Feige in all caps. I was like, are you doing this like for real? Are you sure? I'm so honored!"

While some users, like @thedon2402, expressed confusion about exactly what it all means, it's worth noting that we got another X-Men moment recently in the MCU. "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" saw Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Professor X as an Illuminati member on Earth-838, and the same theme used to introduce Khan's mutation played as Stewart entered the frame in the sequel film. While that isn't confirmation of anything, it does suggest that at this juncture, the MCU has the X-Men on the brain.
