The Most Romantic Scene In Kakegurui According To Fans

"Kakerugui" Season 3 might not be on the cards in the immediate future, but that doesn't mean fans can't enjoy the first two seasons. The adventures of the rampantly gambling future leaders of Hyakkaou Private Academy are well worth any anime fan's attention. The show is full of tonal shifts and mood whiplash, with so many plotlines and themes going on at any given time that it can sometimes be hard to figure out just who the main character is. Oh, there's a nominal protagonist, Yumeko Sabami (voiced by Saori Hayami in Japanese and Erika Harlacher in the Netflix English dub). Then again, she pretty much immediately battles Mary Saotome (Minami Tanaka and Kira Buckland), who goes on to become a major character and the hero of her own spin-off, "Kakegurui Twin." The villainous Kirari Momobami (Miyuki Sawashiro and Michelle Ruff) and her devoted secretary, Sayaka Igarashi (Ayaka Fukuhara and Erica Lindbeck), also receive ample attention — as do many others.

Though its premise revolves on Hyakkaou Academy's complex, gambling-themed social structure, "Kakerugui" is still a high school drama at heart, and as such, there's always a bit of romance lingering on the background. But what's the "Kakegurui" scene fans consider the most romantic?

Sayaka and Kirari's Season 2 tower scene wins the day

In "Kakegurui" Season 2 Episode 10, "The Logical Woman," Sayaka and Yumeko battle each other in the complex and dangerous Tower of Doors gamble, the loser of which takes a plunge from atop the titular tower. What's more, Sayaka has a special clause in the bet that means she and Kirari will be strangers to each other.

Sayaka loses everything and takes a fall from the tower, but things take a surprise turn when Kirari jumps after her, and the two fall together on a safety mat Sayaka didn't know was there. Kirari then asks Sayaka to become her secretary once more, to get around the "strangers to each other" part of the gamble.

In a Reddit thread about the scene, many fans reveal that they consider this moment the most romantic scene of the season, with some outright saying it's the best single moment the anime has to offer. "This Sayaka x Kirari scene in the Tower is my fave and the most romantic scene in the entire season," the starter of the discussion opined. "My favourite scene from the entire series as well," another redditor wrote

It's not exactly surprising that Sayaka and Kirari feature in a fan-favorite romantic scene in the show. Fans on Reddit have wondered about their relationship status, and some even use the affectionate nickname Kirasaya to refer to the pair. The crux of Sayaka and Kirari's relationship is that they feel genuine affection toward each other, despite being just about as different as two people can be. The cruel, manipulative Kirari is a thrill-seeker and a consummate gambler who's right at home in Hyakkaou Private Academy, while Sayaka is a logical, intellectual person who isn't into gambling, but tolerates it because of Kirari.
