For 15 years, "Supernatural" had the world's attention in a supernatural vice grip. Whether it was on The CW or Netflix, viewers flocked to the series about a pair of brothers who literally went to Hell and back for each other. The Hell part was a late-game addition, as the primary thesis of the first five season was for two mythical monster hunters to hunt mythical monsters, but that concept expanded when the series lived on beyond its first primary story arc — and in doing so, it created household names out of stars Jensen Ackles (the grumpy, stumpy one) and Jared Padalecki (the floppy, fluffy haired one). One of the stars that came to shine –- however briefly –- was Adrianne Palicki. She portrays Jessica Moore for exactly four episodes but makes a lasting impression by getting horrifically fridged in the pilot episode so that Sam Winchester (Padalecki), her boyfriend, can go off to start a supernatural quest with his brother. If that lasting impression seems otherwise familiar, it's because Palicki has worked in the film industry for almost two decades now, accruing approximately 50 credits in TV, movies, and animation. Adrianne Palicki shattered stereotypes in Friday Night Lights
"Friday Night Lights" was a 2006 NBC television series, not to be confused with "Friday Night Lights," which is a 2004 Universal film, although since they both featured the same director, it would've made sense for him to do a little better unique branding. Both projects are based on H.G. Bissinger's nonfiction novel "Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, A Dream" from 1990. The television series variant follows an ensemble of everyday characters making life work in Dillion, Texas, and stars Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, and Aimee Teegarden.
Adrianne Palicki portrays Tyra Collete, a troubled teen who lives with her single mother and sister. For the first three seasons of "Friday Night Lights," Tyra's characterization fights back against the "beautiful dumb blonde" stereotype and ultimately leaves to further her education.
In 2019, on the National Podcast Of Texas, Palicki shared an undying affection for the role, saying, "[G]irls come up to me and say they're going to college because Tyra did. That was a pivotal thing for somebody on her side of the tracks that worked that hard to do that."
Adrianne Palicki fought for her country in Red Dawn
"Red Dawn" is an infamous 2012 remake of the 1984 film of the same name. Why is it infamous? Well, it bounced from studio to studio, and then ultimately crashed at the box office (via Bomb Report). The few people who did see it left less-than-stellar reviews, too, as its Rotten Tomatoes scores are middling, at best. The story follows a group of young American citizens defending themselves and their town from a North Korean invasion force. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Josh Peck, and Alyssa Diaz.
Adrianne Palicki portrays Toni Walsh, a member of The Wolverines, and the love interest for Jed Eckhart (Hemsworth). In an interview with Collider, Palicki shared how she was grateful that her time in the action film didn't boil down to a sexist stereotype. "I think that's a realistic version of it. I like that (director) Dan [Bradley] was about not making it about sexes. Everybody was the same." She also admitted that it was difficult to not take "Red Dawn" tanking as personal, but that there were simply too many factors outside of an actor's control.
Adrianne Palicki was a femme fatale in G.I. Joe: Retaliation
"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" was the 2013 blockbuster sequel to the 2009 Paramount film, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." Both movies were based on the Hasbro toy line of the same name and inspired by the success of Michael Bay's "Transformer" franchise. The story follows the G.I. Joes on their mission to stop Cobra Commander (Luke Bracey) from conquering the world by replacing national figureheads with members of his own cohort. "Retaliation" featured an ensemble cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis.
Adrianne Palicki portrayed Jaye Burnett aka Lady Jaye, a covert operative for the G.I. Joes and a weapons specialist, which is a term that movies throw around with hilarious frequency. When describing her character to Impulse Gamer, she said, "you don't want to mess with her. She (Lady Jaye) has a bit of an ego and like most of the characters she puts on a front. She wants to show that she is tough and can hang with the boys. As everything unfolds you get to see the cracks in all of the characters. You definitely get to see her vulnerability."
Adrianne Palicki is the perfect spy in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." was a 2013 ABC television series about the agents on the ground in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show, which is of questionable canonicity to the MCU at large, was Whedon's attempt to expand the universe and break into a new market for Disney but was forced to stand on its own merit after the crossovers with the film franchise proved to be few and far between — and painfully one-sided. The comic project hosts an ensemble cast, which includes Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, and Chloe Bennet.
Adrianne Palicki portrays Bobbi Morse, a dedicated agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who proves her loyalty when the villainous HYDRA team reveals itself within the aforementioned agency's core. Her loyalty to her beliefs trickles into every facet of her personality, as Bobbi is fiercely protective of her friends and considers herself a defender of anyone othered by prejudices. In a 2021 interview with Comic Book Insider, Palicki claimed, "Honestly, she was one of the best characters I've ever played in the fact that she's funny, she's tough. She gets to do fight stuff. She has her drama and emotion. She's vulnerable. She gets to be a spy. She does most of the 'languages.' It's just such a cool role."
She also admitted to an eternal fondness for action films and superhero projects, which is easily deduced by looking at her movie choices.
Adrianne Palicki is an interstellar commander in The Orville
"The Orville" is an ongoing 2017 science fiction dramedy series that was created by Seth MacFarlane. The series underwent a struggle with critical reception at its conception, but has since grown a solid audience (via Rotten Tomatoes) and received a second life on Hulu, which provided "The Orville" a third season where Fox would not.
The "Star Trek" homage project follows the crew of the Orville, an exploratory space vessel, on their journey through the galaxy in the 25th century. MacFarlane stars in his creation, and the main cast is rounded out by Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, and Mark Jackson.
Adrianne Palicki portrays Commander Kelly Grayson, the First Officer — and ex-wife — of Captain Ed Mercer (MacFarlane). Grayson, though sometimes reckless with her actions, is a courageous woman who fights for her crew. She goes out of her way to make amicable amends with her ex-husband, too. In an interview with Sci-Fi Bulletin, Palicki describes her love for comedy, saying, "I've always enjoyed it because it's light-hearted and fun, but the best thing about Kelly is that she gets to do all the things. She's not just a straight man; she has some good zingers in there too. She is strong and capable and gets to do the action – it's a win/win character altogether."
