Why S.W.A.T. Fans Say This Is Their Least Favorite Character
"S.W.A.T." distinguishes itself from other police procedurals by adding in military grade weapons and high stakes arrests. The star of the show is Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson (Shemar Moore), a former marine and Los Angeles native who leads the titular team of tactical responders. Hondo is absolutely dedicated to an idealized version of the law, and he is often disgusted by some of the overt prejudices inherent in the system, which he attempts to rectify to mixed results.
Rounding out his team are Jim Street (Alex Russell), Christina Alonso (Lina Esco), Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson), David "Deacon" Kay (Jay Harrington), Victor Tan (David Lim), and Robert Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit). Each one of these members posses elite skills like the operation of tactical vehicles, precise marksmanship, animal handling, narcotics knowledge, and foreign language comprehension, while also having personalities that are just as robust. There are also characters in "S.W.A.T." that are not part of the team, but are connected to the members through relationships or family ties like Deacon's wife Annie Kay (Bre Blair) and Molly Hicks (Laura James), daughter of Robert.
Of course, not all characters are equally well-loved, and fans have taken to Reddit to discuss their choices for their least favorite character on the popular show. And it seems like there is definitely a consensus.
Fans do not like Annie Kay for her judgmental attitude
Over on Reddit, u/nurvingiel started off the conversation by asking, "Who is your least favourite character and why is it Annie?" They went on to explain, "I love this show and I generally love the characters, but I never forgave Annie for being a judgemental a****** to Chris for being in a polyamorous relationship." Redditor u/firefrenzie also agreed, and added that Deacon is a close second for their least favorite character, which kind of implies that they do not care for the husband and wife combination. And speaking of Deacon, in their explanation for why they don't like Annie, u/specsnkicks01 added, "Not to mention all that she put Deacon through during his financial hardship."
Meanwhile, u/Fluffy-Future2126 elaborated their distaste for Annie, and spoke about Annie's judgment filled interactions with Christina, and how Annie would only accept Christina if their world views aligned with each other. They then went on to say how they feel Annie is just self centered and entirely too close-minded for a person in their position, and wouldn't mind seeing much less of the character in the grand scope of the show. It seems then that the least favorite "S.W.A.T." character for some fans isn't even a member of the squad, but rather, somebody's significant other with a bad attitude.
