Alias Grace Trailer Unveils A Murder Mystery

Two people are dead and a servant girl's guilt or innocence is up in the air in the first trailer for Netflix's upcoming 1840s murder mystery series Alias Grace.

Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood (which was itself based on a true story), Alias Grace tells the story of Grace Marks, an impoverished Irish immigrant living in Canada who stands accused of the murders of her employer and his housekeeper.

While awaiting trial for the murders, Grace is visited by a doctor, played by Edward Holcroft, who attempts to analyze the accused, trying to determine if the mild-mannered servant girl before him could possibly have been so savage as to carry out the killings. The inquiry is complicated by the fact that Grace presents herself as having amnesia, unable to recall anything about the events or her alleged involvement.

A six episode-limited series, Alias Grace is being adapted for television by Sarah Polley (Stories We Tell), who produced and wrote all of the episodes, which were directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho). Starring Sarah Gadon as Grace, the series also features Anna Paquin, Zachary Levi, Paul Gross, and Kerr Logan.

Alias Grace premieres on Netflix on November 3. Watch the trailer above, see the poster below, and for more on what the streaming service has to offer you right now, check out our feature on the hidden gems of Netflix.
