Game Of Thrones Actor Thinks Gendry Will Return In Season 8
Contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7
After all that time away, will Gendry (Joe Dempsie) stay in the picture during the final season of Game of Thrones? At least one actor thinks so.
Liam Cunningham, who play Gendry's pal Davos, recently told Business Insider that the bastard son of Robert Baratheon will probably be back, although he's just guessing.
"I'm sure we haven't heard the end of Gendry on this," Cunningham said. "But I haven't seen any scripts, and I don't even know the start date of next season, nevermind having read anything. So I'm speculating as much as anybody else."
Gendry was absent from Game of Thrones throughout three long seasons. He rowed away from Dragonstone in the season 3 finale, only to finally reemerge in the fifth episode of season 7, working as a blacksmith on the Street of Steel in King's Landing. He then joined Davos and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) on the expedition to trap a White Walker, and it was Gendry who ran back to the Wall at potentially impossible speed in order to send an emergency raven to Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).
"I think he's recovering from his various wounds and whatever," Cunningham said.
It's a fair bet that Gendry will return and play a more substantial role in what's to come in Westeros. Last we saw him, he was at the Wall, which is now in crumbling ruins thanks to the Night King and Viserion. But Gendry had established a friendly rapport with Jon Snow and the pair bonded thanks in part to the relationship of their fathers. But how will Jon treat Gendry once he learns the truth about himself? After all, Gendry's dad killed Jon's actual father, Rhaegar Targaryen, during Robert's Rebellion, which we learned didn't really need to happen.
It'll be a while before we find out anything more. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones might not arrive until 2019. While we wait, find out how Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke feel about the big Jon Snow reveal.
