Will Wanda Have To Fight An Old Frenemy In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?

The following article contains potential spoilers for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."

On May 6, the very fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets thrown into the balance when "Multiverse of Madness" comes out. The epic superhero flick will see the titular Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) attempt to repair his reality and others in what seems like an utter nightmare scenario. That much is evident given the motif of dreams in the most recent TV spot where both Strange and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) recite dialogue about dreams and nightmares.

There's been a lot of contention about Wanda's role in the movie, namely whether she'll be a hero, villain, or some combination of both. That tends to be the case with Wanda in the comics, and there have even been rampant rumors that the "Doctor Strange" sequel will serve as a moderate adaptation of "House of M."

One thing is clear from the trailers we have so far: Wanda will fight pretty much everyone at some point in the upcoming film. And if one theory's to be believed, Wanda may even fight an old frenemy from her Westview days.

Wanda may battle a variant of Monica Rambeau in Multiverse of Madness

In the last few ad spots, there's a mysterious figure who fights Wanda. There's been quite a bit of speculation about who the figure is, with many believing it's Superior Iron Man. However, for our money's worth, it's probably Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), or at the very least, a variant of her.

YouTube channel New Rockstars posited the theory that when Monica entered Westview in "WandaVision," her body split into various factions. You can see this in the episode itself, with multiple versions of Monica emerging from the original body. One of those versions may end up fighting Wanda in "Multiverse of Madness."

The theory could even go further than that. By the looks of it, the battle between Wanda and the person we're assuming is Monica appears to take place in Illuminati headquarters. Could the Monica variant be a member of the Illuminati?

From the trailer, we know there are seven chairs in front of Doctor Strange when he goes before the headquarters. We assume Patrick Stewart's Professor X will be one of the members, but that still leaves six unaccounted for. Could Monica Rambeau be her reality's version of Captain Marvel or Photon and thus has earned a seat at the table with other powerful beings? It remains to be seen, but anything's possible with an infinite number of realities out there.
