50% Of Futurama Fans Agree This Is Their Favorite Character
"Futurama" is a cartoon comedy show based on a relatively sad premise: A delivery boy gets stuck and cryogenically frozen in a time capsule only to wake up 1,000 years later in a world he doesn't recognize with all of his friends, family, and loyal dog long since dead. But the hilarity that ensues immediately after he's thawed out helps fans quickly forget this emotionally uncomfortable plot point. The show is from the creative minds of David X. Cohen and Matt Groening, the same comedy geniuses who brought us "The Simpsons."
"Futurama" is one of those shows that has launched a thousand memes during its run time, many of which feature main character Philip J. Fry (Billy West, who also voices Professor Farnsworth and Dr. Zoidberg). Whether he's insisting that you take his money (via Giphy) or appearing quite obviously skeptical about something (via KnowYourMeme), Fry is the favorite character of a variety of "Futurama" fans. In the series, Fry is joined by supporting characters Leela (Katey Sagal) and Amy Wong (Lauren Tom), among many others. A series of polls taken on Reddit reveal which character holds the most favor with fans. The winner won by a definitive landslide, and you may (or may not) be surprised by who it is.
Bender may have bent the rules to skew the results in his favor
Just kidding. We're sure that random, unofficial Reddit polls are completely secure, totally unhackable, and as fair as fair can get on the internet. But that does sound like something Bender would do, doesn't it? Bender is the drunk uncle in robot form who always speaks his mind and rarely ever puts on a filter. And for this reason, among many, he won the contest with 33 out of 66 votes cast in his favor, a whopping 50%.
One fan, u/skunktubs, pointed out that the pollsters spelled his name incorrectly. As this user put it, Bender's name should be written as "Bender the Magnificent," not just Bender. But this poll is far from the only corner of the internet where Bender gets love from "Futurama" fans. In another Reddit thread, u/J-Rogue-1 asked fellow fans who the best "Futurama" character is. In this thread, the response was much the same as the last. By a decidedly wide margin, the most upvoted reply is "Bender, we love you!" from u/rbreaux26.
As of this writing, there are no less than 11 follow-up responses in that thread alone, all of which confirm the same thing: "Futurama" fans love Bender. At this point, we think it's safe to say that the matter is settled — but if anybody still wants to argue about it, Bender himself would probably tell you to "bite [his] shiny metal a**!"
