The Major Walking Dead Character Fans Think Is Returning For The Finale

The road ahead is a difficult one for everyone involved in "The Walking Dead."

After first premiering on AMC all the way back in October 2010, the popular zombie series is nearing its inevitable conclusion. The series is currently in the midst of airing its 11th and final season, which contains a total of 24 episodes but has been split into multiple parts. On the one hand, the season's extended release schedule means viewers are going to be given enough time to truly enjoy the show's final batch of episodes. However, on the other hand, the season's drawn-out unveiling also means that fans are going to have even more time than usual to build up their expectations for the show's series finale.

Whether or not the final episode of "The Walking Dead" will be able to live up to those expectations remains to be seen, but there is a chance that the series will bring back some familiar faces before it wraps up its story. At least, there's one rumor floating around online right now that suggests that "The Walking Dead" Season 11 will feature a surprise appearance from a character who met an unfortunate end all the way back in the show's 8th season.

Fans think Chandler Riggs may have a cameo in The Walking Dead Season 11

"Walking Dead" fans believe that Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) may make a special cameo appearance in the AMC series' final season. This popular rumor began to gain traction after a "Walking Dead" crew member posted an image of the show's cast and crew on Instagram that was taken during the filming of the series' 11th season. While it's hard to tell who all is in the image, some fans believe that Chandler Riggs, who played Carl throughout the first eight seasons of "The Walking Dead," can be seen standing among the photo's central crowd of people.

Riggs' Carl tragically died in "The Walking Dead" Season 8 after he was bitten by a walker and subsequently chose to take his own life rather than transform into one of the show's mindless undead beings. Taking that into account, if Riggs does actually appear as Carl in "The Walking Dead" Season 11, it'll likely be in a dream sequence or a flashback set before the character's death. Alternatively, it's possible that Riggs may have returned just because he wanted to participate in the show's final season, which means he could end up appearing again in "The Walking Dead" simply as a walker or masked character.

For his part, Riggs cheekily acknowledged the ongoing rumor by tweeting on April Fool's Day, "I am in the final episode of 'TWD,'" only to follow that up a minute later with a tweet that read, "happy april first." In other words, it looks like fans will just have to wait to see whether or not Riggs does, indeed, have a cameo in "The Walking Dead" Season 11.
