Blade Runner 2049 International Trailer Reveals Villainous Plot

We knew that Jared Leto is up to no good in Blade Runner 2049, but now we know some of the details.

Sony released an international trailer for the upcoming sequel to the sci-fi classic, and it's got way more in the way of plot exposition than the atmospheric and relatively vague looks we've seen so far

Ryan Gosling stars as Officer K, an LAPD agent who discovers a terrible secret that could destroy what remains of an already-crumbling society. While that secret remains a mystery, it sounds like Leto, who plays the villainous Neander Wallace, wants to speed up the demise of mankind. He's the head of Wallace Corporations, which makes genetically modified food products that feed futuristic Los Angeles.

"Humanity cannot survive," Leto says as Wallace. "Replicants are the future of the species, but I can only make so many."

Meanwhile, Robin Wright's character tells K that the situation is extremely dangerous. "He's got every gun in the city. I've got you," Wright's character tells K. And Gosling's character later says, "He's constructing an army," presumably referring to Wallace.

The trailer also shows Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Ana de Armas (Hands of Stone), and they both seem to have the makings of replicants.

We'll certainly find out more as we get closer to Oct. 6, when Blade Runner 2049 will hit theaters. Meanwhile, check out why the movie will be better than you think.
