Light Meets L In New Death Note Clip

It's not quite a exciting as seeing the first encounter between Light and the huge, demonic death god Ryuk, but it's certainly intriguing.

Netflix released a new clip from Death Note, the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic manga, and it reveals the initial meeting of Seattle high schooler Light (Nat Wolff) and the enigmatic detective named L (LaKeith Stanfield) who is hot on his trail. Apparently, sitting like a normal human person isn't part of the job description.

You see, Light came into possession of a mystical notebook that allows him to kill anyone he wants just by scribbling his or her name. The incredibly creepy Ryuk (voiced by Willem Dafoe) dropped it on Earth just to see what happens, and he urges Light to use it. It doesn't take long for the teenager to begin using the notebook to become a vigilante, and L begins to connect the macabre dots.

Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You're Next) directs and Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) co-stars as Mia in the flick, which hits Netflix on Aug. 25.

While we wait, take a look at everything coming to Netflix this month.
