The Best Netflix Revival Series That Only Lasted One Season According To Fans

As streaming services have gradually become the default method for an ever-growing number of viewers to tune into their favorite TV shows, many of the biggest names in streaming have likewise become home to revivals of various beloved media properties. Whether because streaming services have access to advanced viewership data due to their digital nature, the ease of access to niche fanbases online services provide, or some other reason entirely, TV shows that hinge entirely on bringing back previously stagnant franchises have seemed to proliferate significantly since the advent of streaming.

For example, YouTube Red premiered the first new entry in the "Karate Kid" franchise since 1994 upon the release of "Cobra Kai" Season 1 in 2018. After YouTube Red folded as a business, the series was picked up by Netflix, where it continues to thrive today. "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" is another example of an early reboot Netflix produced, reviving certain plot threads from the original "Gilmore Girls" series roughly nine years after its conclusion.

An online thread, however, reveled the one Netflix revival series fans most wish lasted for more than one season.

Netflix subscribers miss The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

On the Ask Reddit subreddit, one user started a thread titled "What's the best show that only lasted one season not named Firefly?" to which user bootlegvader replied, "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was a great show from Netflix that was cut short to soon. The puppetry work was amazing."

In a manner similar to plenty of revival series before it, when "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" first premiered on Netflix, it marked a return to the world of Jim Henson's dark fantasy film "The Dark Crystal" for the first time since its 1982 release. Unfortunately for its fans, as referenced in the Reddit thread, Netflix canceled the "Age of Resistance" after just a single season.

Reddit user bootlegvader's comment was upvoted more than 350 times, indicating that a significant number of users in that thread agree that the series was canceled prematurely. In a highly-upvoted reply, user goldenrule117 wrote, "it really, really sucked it got canceled, but I consider it a miracle we got that season at all."

On Rotten Tomatoes, "Age of Resistance" holds an 88% critical score and 94% audience score, further suggesting widespread acclaim for its single season. While Netflix cited the significant cost of producing a puppet-based series as reason for the show's cancellation, Henson's daughter Lisa Henson hinted that "The Dark Crystal" may one day return in another form, leaving some hope for viewers disappointed by the revival series' short run.
