Law & Order: SVU Casts Brooke Shields In Major Recurring Role

There will be a very familiar face on Law & Order: SVU in season 19.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brooke Shields has signed on for a "major" recurring role on the long-running NBC drama. Although details are still top secret, the character will reportedly "shake up" the world of Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

"I play a very different character from any I have ever played," Shields said in a statement. "I'm excited to stir the SVU pot a bit."

Shields is the second addition to the cast for the upcoming season. She joins Philip Winchester, who will reprise his Chicago Justice role as lawyer Peter Stone at some point during the season.

Since the show premiered in 1999, it's become known for high-profile guest stars including Sharon Stone, Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, and the late Robin Williams.

The show will bring Shields back to NBC, where she starred on the sitcom Suddenly Susan and the drama Lipstick Jungle. She's also appeared on The Middle, Army Wives, That '70s Show, and Nip/Tuck.

Law & Order: SVU returns to NBC on Sept. 27. Until then, check out some TV shows that will blow everyone away this year.
