The One Shot In The Obi-Wan Trailer That Has Fans Breaking Down

The teaser trailer for the Disney+ series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" dropped on Wednesday during the latest Disney Investor Day call. The first footage from the highly-anticipated original series gives viewers an action-packed sneak peek of what Ewan McGregor's titular character is up to in the aftermath of the events of "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith."

McGregor had been circling the opportunity to reprise Obi-Wan for years, with the original plan being a feature film (via The Hollywood Reporter). But, per THR, the lukewarm response to "Solo: A Star Wars Story" motivated Lucasfilm and Disney to explore other options. In August 2019, Deadline confirmed the series was in the works, but McGregor's return was kept under wraps until his involvement was confirmed a few days later at the 2019 D23 Expo (via Star Wars). Hayden Christensen will also reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi" picks up 10 years after Darth Vader's rise to power, and the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) is determined to make sure that all remaining Jedi are vanquished (via The Hollywood Reporter). Obi-Wan has accepted defeat, stating in a voiceover, "The fight is done. We lost." While Christensen's character is absent from the trailer, a quick shot of one familiar (sort of) face has fans losing their minds.

Fans are losing it over a shot of young Luke Skywalker

Roughly 24 seconds into the teaser trailer for "Obi-Wan Kenobi" (via YouTube), fans get a glimpse of a young boy who appears to be Luke Skywalker, hidden away on Tatooine with relatives Owen (Joel Edgerton) and Beru Lars (Bonnie Piesse). McGregor's Obi-Wan watches from a safe distance as the young boy pretends to fly a ship. In fact, it looks like he is imagining himself to be in a podrace, much like his father used to do in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace."

Twitter is buzzing with fans' reactions to the trailer, including their responses to seeing a young Luke in this touching scene. One Twitter user, @sbyersx, posted a side-by-side picture of young Anakin (Jake Lloyd) from "The Phantom Menace" and the young actor who appears to play his son with the caption "LIKE MY FATHER BEFORE ME!!!" Even though it's hard to tell, @SITHLEIAS insists the resemblance is unmistakable. "HE LOOKS JUST LIKE LITTLE ANAKIN," they tweeted.

This shot of young Luke has fans reminiscing over the character's long journey throughout the franchise, including @farmboyluke. The Twitter user wrote, "This kid is going to take down a Death Star, redeem Vader, rebuild the Jedi Order ... right now he's a child laborer working on a sand farm he's finding an escape and even hope by pretending to be a pilot — just as Anakin did, and Rey will in future." Oh, the ties that bind together the multiple generations of Jedis, who have no idea the power they are destined to yield. Fans are flooding their Twitter feeds with photos of every big (and now small) screen incarnation of the infamous Skywalkers, both young and old.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi" will premiere on Disney+ on May 25.
