Michelle Pfeiffer Joins Ant-Man And The Wasp

Ant-Man and the Wasp has added Michelle Pfeiffer in a very important role. As revealed at San Diego Comic-Con (via The Hollywood Reporter), the actress will play Janet Van Dyne, the first Wasp and the wife of the original Ant-Man (Michael Douglas). She is the mother to Evangeline Lilly's Hope.

Pfeiffer is one of a few new actors to join Ant-Man and the Wasp. Justified's Walton Goggins will play Sonny Burch, the chairman of the weapons firm often associated with Iron Man villain Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) frequents. Fresh Off the Boat's Randall Park will play the secret agent Jimmy Woo, while Killjoys' Hannah John-Kamen will play the anti-hero the Ghost, a male character in the comic books. It was also announced at SDCC that Laurence Fishburne would join the cast as Bill Foster, also known as Black Goliath. The returning cast members, in addition to Douglas and Lilly, include Paul Rudd as Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man and Michael Pena as Scott's former cellmate. 

Pfeiffer is best known for playing Catwoman in Batman Returns, but the actress has had a long career including appearances in Dark Shadows, Scarface, Hairspray, and The Age of Innocence. She is a three-time Oscar nominee for her roles in Love Field, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Dangerous Liasions; her other upcoming parts include roles in the Jennifer Lawrence thriller Mother! and the star-studded mystery film Murder on the Orient Express.

Peyton Reed will return to the director's chair for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which he previously said will be "every bit as much [the Wasp's] movie as it is Scott Lang's." The film comes from a script by Andrew Barrer (The Crisis of Being Dr. Adam Porter) and Gabriel Ferrari (Holidays) based off a story from Rudd and Adam McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy). The movie is set for a July 6, 2018 release; while we wait, see why the original film almost didn't happen.
