Tom Welling Joins Lucifer Season 3

Tom Welling is returning to DC– and to the small screen. According to Entertainment Weekly, the former Smallville star has joined Lucifer's third season.

Welling will play Marcus Pierce, a strategic, reserved, and well-respected police lieutenant. Although that sounds like the exact opposite of Tom Ellis' title character, they actually end up having a lot in common, with both men being charming, handsome, and charismatic. However, despite their similarities, the two don't get along, as Pierce develops a connection with Decker (Lauren German) that brings out some of Lucifer's more devilish traits.

Welling starred as a young Clark Kent for ten seasons on Smallville, but his career has stagnated some since then, with the actor booking roles in smaller films like The Choice and Draft Day. A return to TV is a smart choice for the actor, and for Lucifer, it marks just another huge get when it comes to casting with nerd-cred– for season two, the show brought on Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer to play Lucifer's mother.

Season two ended with a send-off for Helfer's character, who was sent by her son to another world. Season three will see Lucifer trying to figure out who kidnapped him and why his angel wings have suddenly reappeared. The show, which also stars D.B. Woodside, Rachael Harris, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Aimee Garcia, and Scarlett Estevez, will return for season three on Oct. 2. For now, see Lucifer and some other villains who we'd like to have on our side in a fight.
