Harry Potter's Bizarre On-Set Accident That Had Props Falling From The Ceiling

The "Harry Potter" movies make up one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. Highly praised for their storytelling and acting performances, the eight fantasy flicks also featured some stellar visuals. From the tremendous set design of Hogwarts to the bumpy cobblestones of Diagon Alley, the "Harry Potter" films had scenes that were something to admire. We can thank production designer Stuart Allen for the elaborate sets we got to enjoy, and he was even given a special shout-out by Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe in the "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" special on HBO Max.

Despite meticulous set designs, things didn't always go according to plan on the "Harry Potter" stages. During the reunion special, Watson, Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint discussed how incredible the sets were and remembered a bizarre accident that occurred in the Great Hall during filming. While they didn't note which specific film the accident occurred in, it was hilarious nonetheless.

It rained candles in the Great Hall

Daniel Radcliffe recalled the bizarre accident, saying, "One of my favorite moments on set ever was the moment when all the floating candles started burning through the ropes that tied them to the ceiling and just starting falling around the Great Hall." Emma Watson joined in with a chuckle, noting that all the candles were real and actually lit and dangled from the ceiling with fishing line.

While Radcliffe and Watson didn't mention if anyone was hurt from the falling candles, their happy-go-lucky nature about the bizarre accident made it seem like it was just a funny oopsie daisy.

"So much of that would be visual effects now," Radcliffe added. These days it's easy to rely on CGI to add in something like candles hanging from a ceiling, but during the filming era of "Harry Potter" in the early aughts, that wasn't the way it was done.
