Mahershala Ali Reportedly Cast In Animated Spider-Man Movie

The cast of the upcoming animated Spider-Man movie about Miles Morales may include an Oscar winner.

According to The Tracking Board, Moonlight star Mahershala Ali has signed on to play Morales' uncle Aaron Davis in the upcoming feature from Sony. In the comics, Davis is a career criminal who loves his nephew.

Shameik Moore (The Get Down) is already on board to voice Miles Morales, a half-black, half-Latino teenager who adopts the mantle of Spider-Man. Liev Schreiber will play the villain in the film. The identity of the bad guy is still under wraps.

The report also states that Atlanta co-star Brian Tyree Henry will play Morales' detective father, Jefferson Davis.

Ali also appeared in Hidden Figures and recently wrapped filming for Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel. Henry plays Paper Boi on Atlanta, and also starred in the Sundance-winning Crown Heights.

Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) will co-direct the animated Spider-Man movie, written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (formerly co-directors of the Han Solo movie).

There's no official title for the flick yet, but it's expected to arrive Dec. 14, 2018. In the meantime, check out the insane history of Spider-Man.
