Jeff Bridges Gives Life Advice In The Only Living Boy In New York Trailer

Kate Beckinsale is the other woman in the first trailer for Amazon Studios' upcoming movie The Only Living Boy in New York.

The movie stars Callum Turner as Thomas Webb, a recent college graduate adrift in New York City. As the trailer shows, Thomas believes that "New York has lost its soul," and he begins to hate the city he grew up in. However, his opinion begins to change when he meets his new neighbor W.F. (Jeff Bridges), an alcoholic writer who is a pro at doling out life advice.

Much of the advice Thomas requests has to do with his friend and crush Mimi (Kiersey Clemons), who doesn't return his feelings. "What you need to do is just make her afraid of something more than being with you– not being with you," W.F. says. He suggests that Thomas do this by living his life to the fullest, which Thomas takes as a suggestion to go to a club. It's there that he sees his father (Pierce Brosnan) canoodling with a mysterious woman who is definitely not his mother– Beckinsale's Johanna.

Thomas decides to follow Johanna through New York, and he eventually confronts her, at first threatening her to leave his father alone but quickly beginning to become romantically entangled with her. This leads to issues with his father and with Mimi. "Life is as random as it is deliberate, funny as it is tragic," W.F. tells him. "Youth is no exception."

Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) directed The Only Living Boy in New York based on a script from Allan Loeb (Things We Lost in the Fire). The movie, which also stars Cynthia Nixon, is due to hit theaters on Aug. 11; while we wait, see some of this month's other amazing movie trailers.
