Caesar And The Colonel Face Off In New War For The Planet Of The Apes Clip

Caesar (Andy Serkis) has a new enemy in War for the Planet of the Apes: the ruthless Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson, who forces the apes into a deadly conflict that results in unimaginable losses. A new clip from the film appears to show the aftermath of that conflict, with Caesar wrestling with his darker instincts as he heads out on a mythic quest to avenge his kind.

The new clip, which you can watch above, begins with Caesar captured by the Colonel, who apparently wears his sunglasses at night. "Are you finally coming to save your apes?" the Colonel asks Caesar, who is being held at gunpoint. "I came for you," he gruffly replies.

The Colonel doesn't seem too upset by this, and he gets down at face level with Caesar, taking off his sunglasses so he can look his opponent in the face. "My god, look at your eyes," he says. "Almost human. How did you know I was here?" Caesar replies by saying he was told the Colonel was coming, and that more soldiers from the north would be joining him to help finish off the apes for good. Caesar refuses to reveal who gave him the information, though, and the pair end up leaving to go to a new location.

If early reactions to War for the Planet are any indication, the film could potentially be the best in the rebooted franchise thus far. Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Terry Notary, Judy Greer, Amiah Miller, and Gabriel Chavarria also co-star in the film, which was directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, The Batman) based off a script from Reeves and Mark Bomback (The Wolverine). The movie is due out on July 14; while we wait, see some of the other blockbusters that will blow you away this summer.
