Kate Winslet, Idris Elba Try To Survive In The Wild In The Mountain Between Us Trailer

What if your life depended on a stranger? That's the question pondered in Kate Winslet and Idris Elba's upcoming thriller The Mountain Between Us, which follows two strangers stranded together in the icy wilderness after a plane crash.

The recently released trailer for the film begins by setting up why Elba's Ben and Winslet's Alex need to get where they're going as soon as possible– Ben has to perform emergency surgery, while Alex is getting married. However, both face issues in their travels when their flights are canceled, so Alex suggests that they rent a private plane together.

However, soon into their journey, the plane crashes, leaving Alex (with a seriously injured leg) and Ben to try and find a way to get home. While Ben suggests that they remain with the plane so that the search and rescue teams can find them easier, Alex says that they have to take a risk– especially considering the fact that the pilot didn't file a flight plan and nobody knows where they are. "We are all we've got, me and you," Alex says.

As Alex points out, the two are under a serious time crunch– while they can go three weeks without food and three days without water, they can only go three hours without shelter on the snowy mountain. "We might die together and I don't even know you," Alex says. "We're not gonna die," Ben assures her. "Not today." The tense trailer ends with Alex falling through the ice, leaving Ben to rescue his missing partner in peril.

Hany Abu-Assad (Omar) directed the film based on a script from J. Mills Goodloe (The Age of Adaline) and Chris Weitz (the Academy Award-nominated About a Boy); the movie is based on the novel of the same name from Charles Martin. The Mountain Between Us is scheduled for an Oct. 20 release; while we wait, see some other trailers released this month that will blow you away.
