Despicable Me 3 Trailer Draws Gru To The Dark Side
It's good to be bad in the newest trailer for Despicable Me 3. The movie stars Steve Carell as his Despicable Me character Gru and his newly discovered twin brother Dru, who will tempt him back to the dark side.
"Shortly after you and your brother were born, your father and I divorced," Gru's mother (Julie Andrews) tells him. "We each took one son. Obviously I got second pick." The new trailer highlights just how much Dru, at least to the outside observer, appears to be better than Gru, with the character residing in a large house with lots of fun gadgets– and a full head of hair.
Upon meeting Gru, Dru asks how things are going in his career. "Haha, great," Gru replies, although we're quickly shown that that's not true, as he is fired after letting Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), the world's most wanted villain, get away. "So so great," Gru continues. "Crushing it." Dru has other plans for Gru's future than him sticking with the law, though, telling him that he brought him in to continue the family business. "Villainy is in your blood," he says.
Even though Gru insists he left that life behind, Dru's rich lifestyle and amazing tech tempt him to join in on the heist, despite the anger of his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig). His life of crime seems to happily spill over into his sidekicks, though, with the Minions seen in jail getting tatted up.
Jenny Slate, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Russell Brand, Dana Gaier, and Nev Scharrel also star in Despicable Me 3, which was directed by Kyle Balda, Pierre Coffin, and Eric Guillon based on a script from Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul. The movie, one of many blockbusters that will blow you away this summer, hits theaters on June 30.
