When Will There Be A Bad Moms Christmas 2?

The comedy "Bad Moms," which stars Mila Kunis, Kristin Bell, and Kathryn Hahn as overworked moms who decide to let loose for a change, grossed a very strong $184 million worldwide on a $20 million budget (via Box Office Mojo) following its release in July 2016. The success of the STX Entertainment picture quickly inspired a sequel, "A Bad Moms Christmas," released the very next year.

In the second "Bad Moms" movie, the titular trio of matriarchs — Amy (Mila Kunis), Kiki (Kristin Bell), and Carla (Kathryn Hahn) — must put up with the stress of the Christmas season. The most hectic time of the year gets even rougher when their mothers end up visiting for the holidays. This includes Amy's mom, Ruth (Christine Baranski), Kiki's mother, Sandy (Cheryl Hines), and Carla's estranged mother, Isis (Susan Sarandon). Much like the first film, "A Bad Moms Christmas" made a nice profit, earning $130 million at the worldwide box office when it landed in theaters in November 2017 (via Box Office Mojo).

Fans of the series may be curious then about any upcoming sequels, as it's been years since "A Bad Moms Christmas" hit theaters.

A Bad Moms Christmas sequel is still in the works

As reported by Variety in April 2019, there will be another "Bad Moms" entry, but there will be a twist to the story. STX announced at CinemaCon 2019 that Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines would star in their own comedic feature on motherhood, with the working title revealed to be "Bad Moms' Moms." This time, it's the grandmothers who will have some wild times, in what STX Films chief Adam Fogelson said is "a whole new adventure that is attracting all sorts of great talent."

The demand for a "Bad Moms" movie was in place two years before the sequel came to life. Before the release of "A Bad Moms Christmas" in 2017, producer Suzanne Todd commented on the interest from audiences. She told Entertainment Weekly, "There was some crazy percentage of people who said, 'Please make a third movie as soon as possible,' because there is kind of a jumping-off point at the end of the movie for maybe what you would do if you were going to do another movie." That jumping-off point at the end of "A Bad Moms Christmas" involves the characters played by Baranski, Sarandon, and Hines gathering together and pondering a trip to Las Vegas.

However, it seems production on "Bad Moms' Moms" is still in the early stages years after it was announced. In a June 2021 interview with Us Weekly, Susan Sarandon revealed she hadn't seen a script yet, commenting, "I hope they get that script together. We had so much fun. Those ladies are just a blast and so fun to work with. So, I hope so."
