Extrapolations - What We Know So Far

Apple TV+ has yet to make a major impact in the ever-expanding streaming landscape, but with "Ted Lasso" becoming a legit breakout hit, and the likes of "Dickinson" and "The Morning Show" proving popular with fans and critics alike, things are clearly going well-enough for the fledgeling streamer. As Apple TV+ continues to release a strong slate of films and series, it continues to do so with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. To date, their projects have featured the talents of Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Hailee Steinfeld, Bill Murray, Jennifer Aniston, Chris Evans, and many more.

The streamer is already lining up another all-star cast for one of its forthcoming projects, as well. That project is called "Extrapolations." And while we don't yet know all the ins and outs of the new Apple TV+ series, it's already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing offerings among the streamer's upcoming releases. Here's everything we know so far.

When will Extrapolations be released?

Per a recent Deadline report, "Extrapolations" is already well into production, and should commence to shooting in the very near future. It'll do so with some serious talent working behind the camera too, with lauded filmmaker Scott Z. Burns ("The Report") on board to write, direct, and produce the eight part series. As noted, "Extrapolations" is being developed specifically for Apple TV+, and with its production officially underway, we can likely expect to see the series arrival on the platform in the not too distant future.

Unfortunately, Apple TV+ bosses have yet to announce a premiere date for their high profile new series, so we don't yet know exactly when we'll be able to stream "Extrapolations." But given the timeline of things these days, it's highly unlikely the show will hit Apple TV+ in 2021. Most likely, "Extrapolations" won't be ready for the airwaves until sometime in 2022. Whether the series sees an early 2022 release, or finds a date later in the year, remains to be seen. We'll be sure to update you the moment the premiere date becomes official.

Who is starring in Extrapolations?

We already mentioned "Extrapolations" was boasting an all-star cast, and that was no joke. In fact, "Extrapolations" is shaping up to be one of Apple TV+'s most star-studded affairs to date, with screen icon Meryl Streep fronting the cast. The three-time Best Actress Oscar winner has been on a bit of a streaming kick of late, fronting projects for Amazon Prime Video ("The Report"), Netflix ("The Laundromat," "The Prom," "Don't Look Up"), and HBO Max ("Let Them All Talk") in recent years, but "Extrapolations" will mark her first serialized streaming venture.

Streep will be joined in the series by a brilliant, diverse cast of supporting players, including  Sienna Miller ("The Loudest Voice"), Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"), Tahar Rahim ("Mary Magdelene"), Matthew Rhys ("The Americans," "Perry Mason"), Daveed Diggs ("Blindspotting"), Gemma Chan ("Eternals"), David Schwimmer ("Friends"), and Adarsh Gourav ("The White Tiger"). More casting notes are sure to come for "Extrapolations," and we'll be certain to update the site as they do. For now, the series' already impressive cast should be enough to land it on any TV fan's radar.

What is Extrapolations about?

As for what that all-star cast will be doing in "Extrapolations," per the Deadline report, the new series will tackle the complex topic of the environmental crisis. Specifically, the show will examine how said crisis continues to change the planet, and how those planetwide changes will affect our lives in every possible way. Scripted by Burns, "Extrapolations" will unfold in eight interconnected stories, with each tracking "the worldwide battle for our mutual survival spanning the 21st century."

As of this writing, Meryl Streep's role in those stories remains unknown. Deadline is, however, reporting that Miller will portray a marine biologist in the series, with Harrington playing the CEO of a massive industrial outfit, Rahim appearing as a character suffering from memory loss, and Rhys starring as sketchy a real estate developer. Meanwhile, Daveed Diggs will play a South Florida Rabbi, Chan turns up as a single mother with a career in micro-finance, Schwimmer will be playing the father to a teenage daughter, and Gourav will be a driver for hire in the series.

Given its subject matter, and the astonishing amount of talent attached to the series, "Extrapolations" is about as must-see an event as you'll find. Here's hoping we get to see it sooner rather than later.
