The Strongest Sage With The Weakest Crest - What We Know So Far

It's an exciting time to be an anime fan. Thanks to streaming platforms like Crunchyroll, it's easier than ever to stay up-to-date with all of your favorite adventures. Whether you like shows with end-of-the-world stakes or something a bit more lighthearted, there's something for everyone in the world of anime. And things will only get better in the near future.

2022 has a ton of awesome anime in store. The biggest title in the bunch is the final season of "Attack on Titan," which will wrap up its epic two-part season finale in the new year. On top of that, numerous other titles will make their big debuts in the coming year, such as "In the Land of Leadale" and "The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest." The latter's based on the popular light novel series of the same name, and it's about to get introduced to an even wider audience. Here's what you should know at this point about "The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest."

What's the release date for The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest?

It looks like you'll be able to ring in the new year with some new anime. A report from Anime News Network indicates "The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest" will be available to stream starting in January 2022. Crunchyroll has already licensed the series, so you'll be able to watch it on that platform when the time comes.

A trailer has come out, but it doesn't offer much in the way of information in terms of cast and plot. It essentially functions to talk about how many books the light novel series has sold and then provides some artwork of the various characters. Some fans are bound to appreciate the minimalism and how it doesn't give away too many details of what to expect. It allows newcomers to be in for a surprise when they switch over to Crunchyroll in January.

Which characters will appear in The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest?

Assuming the anime follows closely to the manga, we'd expect the lion's share of attention to go toward the lead character — Matthias Hildesheim. During his first lifetime, he had a mark that prevented him from utilizing his complete power set. It also limited his growth potential, so he decided to become reincarnated into another life, only this time he's entered a world that still believes him to be weak. Some guys just can't catch a break. According to Anime News Network, Matthias will be voiced by Nina Tamaki in the animated show.

Much of the main cast has already been filled out. Some of the voice actors you'll find in the anime include Sayumi Suzushiro as Lurie, Shiori Izawa as Iris, and Haruka Shiraishi as Alma. There have also been announcements for who will fill out some of the behind-the-scenes roles, with Noriaki Akitaya serving as director. Hiroki Uchida will function as the show's script supervisor.

What's the plot of The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest?

If you enjoy magic-themed anime along the lines of "Little Witch Academia" and "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei," then "The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest" is up your alley. In case you require further convincing, just check out this plot synopsis as published by Square Enix Manga & Books: "His strength limited by the magical crest with which he was born, Matthias, the world's most powerful sage, decides reincarnation is necessary to become the strongest of all. Upon his rebirth as a young boy, Matthias is thrilled to discover he's been born with the optimal crest for magical combat on his first try! Unfortunately, the world he's been born into has abysmally poor standards when it comes to magic, and everyone thinks he's still marked for failure! Now it's up to Matthias to prove everyone wrong ... world's strongest sage-style" (via Anime News Network).

As anyone who's read the light novels can attest, "Strongest Sage" is a fun read all the way through. It keeps you entertained, and as long as the anime carries on with that energy, it will attract a host of new fans.
