When it comes to anime, storylines predicated on a will-they-won't-they relationship between two students will always be a staple of the romance genre. Shows like "Quintessential Quintuplets" and "Kaguya-Sama Love is War" capture the hearts of anime fans by being equal parts engaging character stories, gut-busting comedies, and heartwarming romances cute enough to make newborn puppies envious. In recent history, the show "Teasing Master Takagi-san" has been at the forefront of this genre, and it doesn't seem to be stopping soon. The anime, based on the popular manga of the same name about two middle-schoolers with a love-hate relationship, has been going strong since 2018. It is currently gearing up for its third season debut in January 2022.
However, that isn't the only thing "Teasing Master Takagi-san" has going for it. Along with the third season, the franchise will also be releasing a feature-length movie. One thing is for sure: the Teasing Master Takagi-san movie will be released sometime after Season 3 debuts in January 2022. While the third season itself received a teaser trailer meant to get fans pumped, the film has, so far, been left woefully in the sidelines. Whether this means the film will follow closely after the season ends — I.E., sometime in 2022 — is currently unknown.
The silver lining, of course, is that "Takagi-san" fans will have something to look forward to once Season 3 completes, even if they don't know exactly when it will come out.
There is one more aspect regarding the "Takagi-san" movie's release that is worth consideration. Like many anime movies, the "Takagi-san" film will likely premiere in Japanese theaters. However, it's unclear if the same can be said for theaters outside of Japan. The series does have a proper English dub, it's uncertain if the film will receive the same treatment.
Who are the characters in the Teasing Master Takagi-san movie?
Because the "Takagi-san" animators, TOHO animation, haven't revealed much regarding the upcoming film, it's not clear which supporting characters are set to make appearances. That being said, we can always bet on our two love/hate-birds to star in the feature. The first of them is, of course, the eponymous Takagi-san. Your average middle school girl, Tagaki is too embarrassed to let on that she likes her crush, Nishikata. So, she constantly teases and bullies him. She is voiced by Rie Takashi in Japanese and Sarah Wiedenheft in English (via MyAnimeList).
Likewise, Nishikata is just as much of a scaredy-cat when it comes to Takagi. He also has feelings for her, but is often annoyed by her bullying. As a result, he has vowed to get her back with his own antics, though he is unsuccessful more often than not. He is voiced by Yuki Kaji in Japanese and Aaron Dismuke in English.
What is the plot of the Teasing Master Takagi-san movie?
Of all that we know about the "Takagi-san" film, we know the least about its plot. As with the rest of the series, it will surely focus on Takagi and Nishikata playing tricks on each other as they are apt to do. The exact circumstances of these shenanigans are another question, however.
It is especially difficult to predict what may happen because the film is set to arrive in the wake of Season 3. That means whatever major developments Season 3 brings to the table could mean big things for the plot of the film, which are difficult to predict before the season concludes. However, this is most definitely a deliberate decision on the part of TOHO. Keeping fans guessing is the name of the game when it comes to announcing upcoming projects. Plus, with Season 3 well on the way, anime fans already have enough on their plates to worry about.
Whatever the case, the "Takagi-san" movie is sure to bring lots of laughs and a heap of heartwarming moments to romance fans everywhere.
