Cosmic Dawn - What We Know So Far
The existence of aliens and whether they've traveled to Earth has been one of the most hotly debated topics in media and academia since humans first conceived of space travel. After all, nobody really knows what inhabits the rest of our infinite universe. Despite this, some people swear aliens are not only real, but that they're here right now and have been for a while. Many of these claims seem preposterous, but that doesn't stop anyone from considering the possibility that humans are not alone in the universe.
These are the topics touched on by the new film by writer and director Jefferson Moneo. Among other things, "Cosmic Dawn" is an exploration of our conception of alien life, and follows one woman's search to learn the truth of the matter. Not a lot is known about the project; however, it has been slated for what seems to be a solid release window. Furthermore, it carries an interesting cast and plot. With that in mind, here is what we know so far about "Cosmic Dawn."
What is the release date for Cosmic Dawn?
In July 2021, levelFILM and Cranked Up acquired the rights to "Cosmic Dawn." According to Deadline Hollywood, the companies announced that the film will be released in the first quarter of 2022 in North America. Thankfully, "Cosmic Dawn" will almost assuredly face no delays, as the film has already entered post-production (per IMDb).
"We are excited to be a part of the release of Cosmic Dawn and to bring audiences a unique and timely psychological thrill ride," said David Hudakoc, Managing Director of levelFILM.
While it can be assumed that "Cosmic Dawn" is set to debut in theaters, none of the filmmakers or distribution companies associated with the project have indicated that it will release on a streaming service. Like most films these days, it will likely end up somewhere where people can stream it. However, when and where that will be has seemingly yet to be decided.
Who is in the cast of Cosmic Dawn?
The star of "Cosmic Dawn" is French-American model and actress Camille Rowe (via IMDb). She plays Aurora, an ex-alien cult member who witnessed her mother's abduction by aliens as a child. She is joined on screen by Emmanuelle Chriqui, who plays a character named Natalie, Antonia Zegers, Joshua Burge, and many more.
Of these characters, the only one we have specific details about is Aurora. It's not certain which individuals act as friend or foe to Aurora, and given her complicated past, it might be that she has no allies at all. What's more certain is that Aurora does have enemies. Though the exact nature of her relationship with the titular Cosmic Dawn hasn't been made clear through the film's promotion, her status as an ex-member implies that she is not on good terms with the cult.
What is the plot of Cosmic Dawn?
"Cosmic Dawn" follows Aurora, who was your average girl until she witnessed her mother's alien abduction. In her adult life, Aurora joined the UFO-centric cult for which the movie is named. By the time we meet her in the film, Aurora has already left the Cosmic Dawn. However, she is still haunted by her past as both a witness of alien life and a member of a cult. The film focuses on her endeavor to understand and learn the truth regarding her mother and the Cosmic Dawn.
Interestingly, the plot of "Cosmic Dawn" isn't rooted completely in science fiction. At least, according to writer-director Jefferson Moneo, it's based on his real-life experiences. "Cosmic Dawn was shaped by an extraterrestrial encounter I had as a child," Moneo divulged to Deadline. "Like Aurora in the film, no one believed my story. But perhaps recent revelations will start to change people's minds. Aliens are out there — and they are real!"
